He was a native of St. Louis, preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Cecile Cotter Alexander, graduate of the University of Washington with a masters degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, retired civil engineer from Dravo Corp., Pittsburgh, member of Tau Beta Pi (engineering scholastic honorary society), American Society of Civil Engineers, and Armstrong Masonic Lodge of Wilmington, Del., held offices with the River Hills Community Church, the church cemetery association and marina club.
