He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Clarence P. and Eula Stewart Armstrong Sr., brother of the late John Justus Armstrong, Army veteran of World War II, served in the European theatre (Etousa) and in a Paris detachment, also Theatre Forces European Theatre, attended radar school in Fort Sill, Okla., served in and retired from Belmont and Charlotte National Guard, retired from the U.S. Postal Service, member of First Methodist Church, served on the board of directors of South Point Fire Department, served as secretary and treasurer of NARFE, assistant Scout Master, Troop 56 at First United Methodist Church, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, worked for Southern Railroad and carried a paper route.

RALEIGH — Dixon Bradley Hanna, 90, formerly of Gastonia, died Dec. 28, 1999, at Mayview Convalescent Center, Raleigh. He was the husband of the late Edna Whitesides Hanna, son of the late David Bradley and Minnie Lewis Hanna, retired from the USDA Soil Conservation Service in 1972, lifelong member of the First ARP Church of Gastonia, where he was active until his move to Raleigh in 1991, elder emeritus, served as church choir director for 34 years.
