He was a native of Pickens County, S.C., son of the late Meredith Anderson and Gladys League Ballew, member First Presbyterian Church, member Kings Mountain Kiwanis Club, American Legion, graduated with honors from Clemson University with a degree in textiles, worked for J.P. Stevens and Burlington Industries for 13 years, yarn salesman, retired after 30 years of owning his own sales company, World War II Air Force veteran with 97 combat missions in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Yugoslavia, Distinguished Flying Cross, honorably discharged with the rank of captain.
