She was a native of Mount Holly, daughter of the late Millard DeWitt and Martha Anne Kelly Rankin, wife of the late Garrie Lee Kendrick, graduated from Women’s College in Greensboro, taught third grade in Mount Holly for eight years, founding member of Mount Holly Book Club, Mount Holly’s woman of the year in 1966.
