Cuthbertson, longtime member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, active in the women of the church, employed at Lineberger’s Fishfry for more than 15 years.

GASTONIA — Giles McIntosh Williams, 84, 220 Rainbow Lane No. 33, Cheaspeake, Va., formerly of 601 Downey Place, died Jan. 2, 2000, at Cheaspeake General Hospital.
He was a native of Tampa, Fla., son of the late William Arthur and Harriet McIntosh Williams, World War II veteran with Public Health Service, member of First Baptist Church, Sunday school teacher of men’s fellowship class, member of "Golden K" of Kiwanis Club, 1937 graduate of University of North Carolina, graduate student at N.C. State, chemist with N.C. Department of Agriculture for 42 years, also worked with Atomic Energy Commission in testing effects of radiation on food.

ASHEVILLE — Dr. Ernest Robert Sidney Witten, died Dec. 31, 1999, at home.
He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Herman Witten, attended Belmont Abbey College, graduated cum laude from Georgetown College, and four years of medical school where he received his M.D. degree cum laude and PHD in bacteriology, captain in French Foreign Legion on special assignment from the Department of State, opened practice of internal medicine in Asheville in 1949, chief of staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1967, founded the Intensive Care and Coronary Units in 1968, retired in 1986, member of American Medical Association, Beth Ha Tephila Temple and Beth Ha Tephila Brotherhood, the B’nai B’rith Lodge, National Rifle Association, Asheville Country Club, life member of North Carolina Medical Society and National Eagle Scout Association.
