He was a native of Rutherfordton, son of the late John Craig and Luella Moore Ellis, father of the late Johnny Patrick Ellis, brother of the late Carroll Gene and Edwin Brice Ellis, retired textile supervisor, member of Masonic Lodge 369, Navy veteran of World War II, served in amphibious forces in the Pacific, World War II Last Mans Club, United States LST Association, Loray Baptist Church, graduate of Lincolnton High School and N.C. Vocational Textile School, Belmont.
