He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late George W. and Gladys Clark Harstin, husband of the late Jean Holland Harstin, Army veteran of World War II, prisoner of war in Germany, received a Bronze Service Star, retired from Public Service Gas Company, worked many years in the printing department, member of Gastonia A.F. & A.M. Lodge No. 369, past master in 1973, received 50 year pin, member of Gastonia York Rite Masonic Bodies, served as Past High Priest, Illustrious Master and Commander, received the Knight York Cross of Honour, member of Oasis Shrine Temple, Charlotte, active in Demolays, member of advisory council, received Honorary Legion of Honor.

Hughes, wife of the late William David Edwards, sister of the late Georgia Raymer and Burene Dedmon, grandmother of the late Jeffrey Neal Edwards, lived in Shelby from 1943 to 1996, moved to Rowlett, Texas, in 1996 to live with her son, moved to Plano, Texas, in 1997 with her son and his family, licensed practical nurse, served many families in Shelby.

He was a native of Bern, Switzerland, son of the late Paul and Marie Keiser, attended Federal Polytechnic Institute, Zurich, Switzerland, served in Swiss cavalry, immigrated to United States in 1952, attended Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, New York, became a U.S. citizen while maintaining his Swiss citizenship, held 40-year career in textile industry which included most aspects of textile manufacturing and involved manufacturing facilities in New York, Rhode Island, Virginia and North Carolina, was an epicure and textile engineer.
