MOUNT HOLLY - Dewitt "Dick" Summerrow Beatty Jr., 70, 507 N. Hawthorne St., died Jan. 25, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia. He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Dewitt S. Sr. and Lelia Bouldin Beatty, retired real estate and insurance agent, graduate of Mount Holly High School and attended Belmont Abbey College, member of First United Methodist Church, Mount Holly, formerly active in church, vice chairman of the official board, president of the men’s Bible class, active in Jaycees where he served as president, received Mount Holly Man of the Year Award in 1960, former member and president of Mount Holly Lion’s Club, served as a member of the board of trustees of Gaston Memorial Hospital in December 1981, past member of Gaston County Board of Equalization & Review, serving as chairman for six years.

He was a native of Cramerton, son of the late Frank F. and Mamie Huffstickler Medlock, preceded in death by four brothers and a sister, organized Oakland Memorial Baptist Church in Lowell and Gaston Baptist and Springfield Baptist in Dallas, served as a pastor in Louisiana and Maryland, part-time magistrate for Gaston County, member Lowell Masonic Lodge, Army veteran.
