She was a native of Stamford, Conn., mother of the late Vincent Stephen "Tootsie" Melia, worked nine years as secretary and technician in Gaston Memorial Hospital’s Rehabilitation Department, with an emphasis in the speech and hearing section, secretary of Allied Health Retention Committee and public relations subcommittee, coordinated employee activities, attended Lutheran Chapel Church, supporter of academic, athletic and PTO organizations for her children at Hancock, Brookside, Holbrook and North Gaston schools.

She was a life-long resident of Cheektowaga, husband of the late George C. Hessler, worked as a secretary for Alcoa Aluminum for 40 years until her retirement in 1966, longtime member of Christ Church and Ascension Lutheran Church, Snyder, N.Y., Niagara Lutheran Home volunteer, bridge player and member of a bridge club that met monthly for 50 years.
