GADSDEN, Ala. — Nettie Black Lawson, M.D., 89, died.
She was the wife of the late C.L. Lawson, M.D., daughter of the late James Elbridge and Mary Lenora Hipp Black, preceeded in death by three sisters and five brothers, did her undergraduate work at UNC Chapel Hill, graduated Medical College of Tennessee, Memphis, practiced general medicine for more than 37 years before retiring in 1978, had her experiences as a medical student and a mining company doctor featured in the book "Healing Hands: An Alabama Medical Mosaic," member of First Baptist Church, Gadsden, pastor’s Sunday school class, American Medical Association, Medical Association of the State of Alabama, Hobby Garden Club, served as national judge for flower shows.

BELMONT — Master Sergeant Robert H. "Baby Boy" Stafford Sr., 70, died Feb. 21, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.
He was the son of the late Kirby C. and Effie Starnes Stafford, 1949 graduate of Marion High School, aircraft maintenance specialist in Air Force, assigned to Amarillo AFB, Texas, Chanute AFB, Illinois, released from active duty at Craig AFB, Selma, Ala., in 1954, enlisted in North Carolina Air National Guard in 1955, became full-time employee, aircraft maintenance technician, worked on military aircraft T-33, F-86A/E/L, C-119J/C, C-121, C-124 and C-130B, retired in 1990 as aircraft maintenance, crew chief C-130B, after 39 years of military and civil service employment, received Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, Air Force Training Ribbon, North Carolina Distinguished Service Medal, North Carolina National Guard Service Ribbon and Master Aircraft and Munitions Maintenance Badge, active member for more than a decade of Shady Brook Baptist Church, served on Board of Deacons, Brotherhood Leader.
