GASTONIA - Annie Robertson Dawn, 90, 122 Dana Lane No. 19, died March 17, 2000 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Murphy, daughter of the late Lum and Hattie Carroll Robertson, wife of the late Sidney H. Dawn, mother of the late Yvonne, Larry and Leonard Dawn, retired textiles worker.
SURVIVORS: Daughters, Janice Rodriquez, Janette Dawn, Barbara Christ, Gastonia; sister, Ida Hager, Lucia; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-granchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren.

GASTONIA - Jep McKnight "Mack" Byrd Jr., 72, Central Care, Cherryville, died March 17, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby. He was a native of Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Jep McKnight and Lora Byrd, attended Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, employed at American-Efird Mills.
SURVIVORS: Daughter, Stephanie B. Wilson, Gastonia; grandchildren, Deana Brazil, Kings Mountain, Sharis L. Wilson, Gastonia; four great-grandchildren

GASTONIA - Henry Lee Ewards, 69, 2211 Second St., died March 14, 2000 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was a native of High Point, son of the late Henry and Ruth Alexander Edwards, member Neelys Grove A.M.E Zion Church, warehouseman.

Rev. Miles McLean
LINCOLNTON - The Rev. Miles A. McLean, 87, 1607 Country Club Road, died March 15, 2000, following a long illness. He was a native of Lincoln County, attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Yale University Divinity School, ordained minister in the United Methodist Church, member Western North Carolina Conference, served as pastor to congregations in Connecticut and Florida from 1935-41, returned to North Carolina and served as pastor at Long’s Chapel at Lake Junaluska, Troutman, Asbury Memorial in Asheville, Ann Street in Concord, First Methodist and Morning Star in Canton, Asbury in Lincolnton, Bethlehem-Bess Chapel and Pinnacle, in retirement he’s served as pastor at New Hope in Lincoln County and Bethea in Bessemer City for a total of 51 years as a pastor, in retirement he enjoyed gardening, golfing and was honored as Minister Emeritus by Asbury United Methodist Church in Lincolnton.

He was a native of Cleveland County, son of the late George Landrum and Julia Gold Cornwell, brother of the late Buna Hull, Lala Stamey, Mattie Gettys, Marie Horn, Clema Elmore, Margaret Lee and Ab, Lee, Hal and James Cornwell, grandfather of the late Denise Johnson and Jeffrey Spurling, father-in-law of the late Dennis Johnson, cattle and field crop farmer, graduate of Piedmont High School, lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church, former deacon and active member of Sunday School, Golden Years Club and the Brotherhood, former member of the Cleveland County School Board, charter member of the board of directors of the Upper Cleveland Rescue Squad, master mason since 1946 with Lawndale Masonic Lodge #486, favorite pasttime was enjoying the companionship of friends around a game of "Rook."
