He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Lee Andrew and Minnie Mae Witherspoon Anthony, began his 40-year career as an airshow pilot in Lincolnton and Cherryville in the 1930s, ferried bombers to Africa for the Army during World War II, member of the OS5 Club and The Silver Wings fraternity, retired in 1975 as a commercial pilot.
