He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Henry Lawrence and Edna Best Holland, employed in the textile industry, retired from Belmont Heritage as vice president of yarn sales after 28 years of service, worked in sales at Bradley Flyer and Spindle Inc., and Burnett Machine Co., member of the Wesleyan Church, held several church offices, participated in mission work and the education of youth, formerly active with the Boys Scouts of America, World War II Navy veteran.
