She was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late John Sterling and Fannie Belle Thomas Lazenby, sister of the late Weldon Truett and Delbert Thomas Lazenby, and one infant sister, retired after 40 years with the N.C. Teachers and State Employees Association where she was a newsstand operator in the Gastonia Post Office, lifelong member of East Baptist Church, Gastonia, former Sunday School teacher, nursery worker, member of the W.M.U., member of Blind and Visually Disabled Club of N.C., graduate of Frank L. Ashley High School in Gastonia, instrumental in raising several nieces and nephews.
