She was a native of Hartsville, S.C., went to Gastonia High School, Sacred Heart College, Belmont, spent early years in Raleigh and Gastonia, received bachelor’s, library science and law degrees from UNC Chapel Hill, librarian for the Army in Germany and Korea, traveled in Europe, Middle East and the Far East, law librarian for California’s Water Resources Board and Hogan and Hartson Law Firm, Washington, attorney with National Labor Relations Board, retired in 1991, an amputee, wrote for amputee publications, developed networks and lobbied Congress and the District’s Council for special needs, appointed to Taxi Cab Commission, member of All Souls Unitarian Church, League of Women Voters, Red Circle, Daughters of the American Revolution, Regent of District of Columbia’s Fort McHenry Chapter, organized American History Month for area school children.
