GASTONIA - William S. "Bill" Holland, 77, 3111 Whitson Road, died May 4, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Wilmington, son of the late Stanley and Sarah Maulstby Holland, father of the late Stephen W. Holland, Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II who served in the European Theater and was a P.O.W. in Germany, member of the first graduating class of Wilmington College, went on to UNC-Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the class of 1951, founding firm member of Cherry, Bekaert and Holland C.P.A.s, retired as managing partner in 1979, charter member of Parkwood Baptist Church, member of the Rotary Club of Gastonia, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, active community participant, served on various boards and committees, including President of the United Way of Gaston County.
