GASTONIA - Dr. Abe Lawrence Feuer, 85, 1006 Fairfield Drive, died May 16, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was a native of New York City, husband of the late Jacquelyn Wylie Feuer, son of the late Joseph and Fannie Weidner Feuer, brother of the late Annie F. Desind, member of Temple Emanuel since 1948, member of the Gaston County Medical Society, North Carolina State Medical Society, American Medical Association, Hospital Ship Hope Alumni Society, fellow of the American College of Surgeons, N.C. Medical Society 50 Year Club, licensed airplane pilot, ham-radio operator, regularly wrote articles for various newspapers including The Gaston Gazette and the Charlotte Observer, wrote two novels, entered Cornell University in 1931 after graduating from public and Hebrew high schools, received a B.S. degree in 1935 and an M.D. degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and the Hanemann University School of Medicine in 1939, interned with Fordham Hospital in New York City from 1939-1941, moved with his wife and son to Dallas where he practiced from 1948-1953, and in Gastonia from 1953-1958, served as president of Gaston County Cerebral Palsy chapter, physician to the Gaston County Disabled Children School, president of the AARP local chapter, attended the Medical University of S.C. in Charleston for two years of training in nose, ear and throat, returned to Gastonia to practice his specialty from 1960-1985, served as a volunteer on the Hospital Ship Hope for a total of six months in South America and Northern Africa.
