She was a native of Walnut, taught school in Madison County, N.C., and Baltimore, Md., for 31 years, served as director of Madison County Counsel on Aging, initiated idea in Madison County of a county library, served as first chairman of the Library Board of Trustees, secretary of North Carolina Organization of Home Demonstration Clubs, named Woman of the Week by Asheville Citizen-Times newspaper where she was a feature writer, coached basketball teams for Walnut and Marshall High schools, her biography was included in North Carolina Lives and Who’s Who, past president of the retired teachers association, for many years authored a weekly column, Just a Woman’s Observations, for The News Record, past president of Madison County Democratic Women’s Club, volunteer at Memorial Mission Hospital, Asheville, member of Western Carolina University Alumni Board, Walnut Missionary Baptist Church.
