She was a native of Cleveland County, daughter of the late G.S. and Lee Ola Grigg Whitaker, 1931 graduate of Mooresboro High School, earned teaching degrees from Boiling Springs College and Limestone College, earned masters degree of education from University of North Carolina at Greensboro, principal of Mount Olive Elementary School in Horry County from 1942-1943, member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, active in Beta Tau Chapter in Charlotte, as historian wrote the history of the chapter from 1970 to 1982, taught at Quail Hollow Junior High School, Charlotte, retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System in 1975.
