LINCOLNTON — John Lewis Singleton, 82, of 634 Landers Chapel Rd., died Monday at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Macon County, son of the late William abd Wilna Sorrells Singleton. He was in sales for most of his life, member of Bethel Lutheran Church, served as Sunday School teacher, and past Chairman of the church council. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Corp serving in WWII.

IRON STATION — Maggie B. Hall, 55, 4101 E. Hwy. 27, died August 19, 2000, at Lincoln Medical Center.
She was a native of Lincoln County, daughter of the late Alexander Hall. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and attended Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She retired from Burlington Industries and graduated from Nebold high School class of 1965.

He was a native of Mecklinburg County, son of the late Paul Nantz. He was a driving trainer at Eagle Transport Co. Charlotte, and was an Army Veteran.

WINCHESTER, Va. — Gladys "Hap" Louise Caldwell Hill died Aug. 22, 2000, at The Willows at Meadow Branch.
She was a native of Bessemer City, daughter of the late William Galbraith and Lucy Jane Hord Caldwell, wife to the late Clarence H. Hill, secretary to the late Sen. Harry F. Byrd Sr., worked as a real estate agent for Molden Real Estate Corp., J.V. Arthur Inc. and the late Daniel T. Grimes, member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, past president of the Auxiliary of the Virginia State Horticultural Society, served as board member of the Women’s Civic League of Winchester for many years, had been a member of the Lord Fairfax Garden Club and served as first and second vice president, awarded life membership in the Virginia Federation of Garden Club in 1994, member of Quota International of Winchester and served as president in 1979, board member of the Blue Ridge Fine Arts League.
