LAURELTON, N.Y. — Mildred Jackson Harris, 101, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Sept. 1, 2000. She was the daughter of the late Sam and Mary Hemphill Jackson, wife of the late Will Harris, seventh of 16 children, attended Dixion School of Kings Mountain, worked as house person for many years, raised many different races of children, lived in her own home in Kings Mountain until age 98, moved to New York to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Claude Gerst.

He was a native of Fort Dodge, Iowa, son of the late Harold and Regina Rowan, attended Creighton University, Omaha, Neb., Army veteran of World War II, served as 1st Lt. with the 106th Infantry Division, European Campaign, wounded in Battle of the Bulge, received Purple Heart, Bronze Star, National and American Defense Medals, earned Good Conduct Medal and Combat Infantry Badge, discharged with rank of Captain, graduated with a business and accounting degree from Duke University, resident of Shelby since 1950, with Internal Revenue Service for 31 years, member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, served on Parish Council, Sunday school teacher, lector.
