He was a native of Cleveland County, son of the late Gary and Maggie Walker Whitaker, husband of the late Gladys Petty Whitaker. He was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church, where he served as church custodian for over 50 years. Member of the choir and former deacon. He was a farmer.
