He was a native of Buncombe County, son of the late Mary Brown and Charles Baxter Bolden, husband of the late Dorothy Leonard Bolden, educated in Salisbury city schools, Southeastern Commercial College, Funeral Service School of Management, Evanston, Ill., Army veteran of World War II, served in Europe, awarded two bronze stars, associated with Summersett Funeral Home since 1940, served as executive vice president until retirement in 1985, continued to work part-time and sang for funerals for 10 years, served families for more than 50 years, member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, director of music for 37 years, deacon and trustee, past president of Salisbury Kiwanis Club, received Hixon Fellowship Award in 1998, served 25 years as secretary of Franklin Township Fire Department, past master of Fulton Masonic Lodge 99, past president and charter member of Salisbury Music Club, member of Salisbury-Rowan Lodge Knights of Pythias, Samuel C. Hart American Legion Post 14, Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFW Post 3006, moderator of Rowan Baptist Association from 1975-1976.
