Paul Vogel
SHELBY — Paul W. Vogel, 84, died Sept. 3, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. He was a native of Boston, son of the late John J. and Anastasia Vogel, brother of the late John J. Vogel Jr., father of the late infant children, Peter, Valeri and James Ali Vogel, and daughter-in-law, Sharon Buck Vogel, grew up on Beacon Hill, spent summers on Boston’s South Shore, devoted Catholic, graduated 1938 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in engineering, Army veteran of World War II in the European theatre, retired from the Army as a major in 1946, worked in insurance and finance for 30 years with Blue Ridge Insurance Co., Beacon Insurance Co. and M&J Finance, retired in 1974 and took a second career working for the next 10 years as an insurance consultant for the state of South Carolina, licensed real estate agent specializing in sale of properties on the North Carolina coast, member St. Mary’s Catholic Church, ardent Republican and supporter of conservative causes, spent his retirement mostly in Ocean Isle.
