She was a native of Cleveland County, daughter of the late William Gordon and Mary Ann Whitworth Hord, wife of the late Carl Winfred Davidson and Jesse Franklin Niven, sister of the late Loron and Alvin Hord, Leslie McBrayer, Zona Clay, step-mother of the late Jesse F. Niven Jr. and Virginia Niven Herman, Waco High School Graduate, attended Limestone and Lenoir-Rhyne Colleges, teacher in the public schools, member First Presbyterian Church of Albemarle, Sunday school teacher, circle leader, president during 1958-59 and life member of the Women of the Church, visited homebound members of her church, worked summers as a hostess in the Assembly Inn at Montreat in Black Mountain, member United Daughters of the Confederacy, charter member of the Dogwood Garden Club, two-term president of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, president of the Albemarle Woman’s Club, Outstanding Elementary Teacher 1972, Albemarle Junior Woman’s Club Woman of the Year 1958 and 1980, volunteer at Stanly Memorial Hospital for which she received a certificate of service in 1982, member of the National Federation of Business and Professional Woman’s Club, BPW Woman of Distinction of the Year 1980, maintained residence in Albemarle, spent time with her sister in Falls Church, Va.before moving to The Sterling House.
