She was a native of Clyde, daughter of the late John and Dale Haney, wife of the late Belton J. "B.J." Boulware Jr., preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers, last surviving member of her immediate family, of Baptist faith.

She was a native of Cleveland County, daughter of the late George and Sarah Fortenberry Campbell, wife of the late Arthur Mathis Sr., mother of the late Arthur Mathis Jr. and Anderson Davis, grandmother of the late Wanda and Michael Davis, mother-in-law of the late Earl Davis, sister of the late Hazel Foster, Guy, Everette, Dave, John and Grady Campbell, retired certified nursing assistant with Shelby Convalescent, member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

Newton, Kathleen Harmon and Ruby Spencer, graduate of Gastonia High School, entered Navy at 17, won an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy, served in South Pacific during World War II.
