She was a native of Clyde, daughter of the late John and Dale Haney, wife of the late Belton J. "B.J." Boulware Jr., preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers, last surviving member of her immediate family, of Baptist faith.

Newton, Kathleen Harmon and Ruby Spencer, graduate of Gastonia High School, entered Navy at 17, won an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy, served in South Pacific during World War II.
