OINE, Va. - Fielding Vaughan "Bro." White, a Portsmouth native, died Jan. 22, 2002, at his residence.
A graveside service was conducted Jan. 24, 2002 at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Brian Huffman.
Survivors include his wife, Marylee Talton White; a son, Randy of Gates; a daughter,
Laura Gould of Suffolk; three brothers, David White of Oine, Richard White and James
"Jimmy" White, both of Chesapeake; and a granddaughter.
Stephanie L. Pierce
RALEIGH - Stephanie Leanne "Hopp" Pierce, 32, died Jan. 16, 2002, at Duke University Medical Center.
A memorial service was conducted Jan. 19, 2002, at First Assembly of God, Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Leukemia Foundation,
4320 Bland Road, Raleigh, NC 27609 or to First Assembly of God, 3249 Blue Ridge Road Raleigh, NC27612.
Mrs. Pierce was a member of First Assembly of God, in which she was very active with MOPS and children's nursery.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Pierce; five children, Jonathan, Jeremy, Justin, Brittany and Brook; her parents, James and Nyrka Hopp of Raleigh; a sister, Roxanne and brother, James; and her grandparents, Rafael and Mary Bonilla of Florida and Florida and Carl Hopp of Raleigh.
Geraldine G. Tompkins
EURE - Geraldine G. Tompkins, 78, a native of Port Chester, N.Y., died Jan. 23, 2002, at SMH, Franklin, Va. She was the widow of George M. Tompkins.
A funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Jan. 26, 2002 at Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Wayne Gardner.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in her memory be made to the Cool Spring Baptist Church, Eure, NC 27935 or the Gates County Rescue Squad,
Gatesville, NC 27938.
Mrs. Tompkins was a LPN.
Survivors include three daughters, Susanne T Taylor of Eure, Geraldine Palmer of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Mary Kathryn Lofquist of Watertown, Minn.; two sons, George M. Tompkins III of Prospect, Conn., and Tyrone C. Tompkins of Waterbury; two sisters, Ruth G. O'Brien of Green Valley, Ariz., and Catherine Mead of Port Chester, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
Amanda G. Harrell
GATESVILLE - Amanda Gail Harrell, 19, a native of Gates County, died Jan. 24, 2002.
A graveside service was conducted Jan. 27, 2002 at Eure Christian Church Cemetery by the Rev. Gene Asbill and the Rev. Wayne Gardner.
Because of her love for animals we ask that you adopt a pet or make a contribution in her memory to the Roanoke - Chowan SPCA or to Eure Christian Church. Amanda was currently a student at Roanoke - Chowan Community College and was also a part time employee with Ahoskie Animal Clinic.
Survivors include her parents, Marshall and Connie Eure Harrell; a brother, Jason Harrell of the home; her maternal grandmother, Erma D. Eure of Gatesville and her paternal grandparents, Raymond and Ethel Cale of Colerain.
Dorothy 0. Knight
GATES - Dorothy Otelia Knight, 67, a native of Gates County, died Jan. 26, 2002, at her residence.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. James K. Brown. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include her husband, Robert C. Knight; children, David E. Knight, Sr. and Michael A. Knight, both of Gatesville, Carver E. Knight of Wolfpoint, MT, Sharion K. Boone of Gates and Brenda B. Boone of Edenton; sister, Adola Hyman of Torrance, Calif.; a brother, Authur Hall Jr. of Fayetteville; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great - grandchildren.

GATESVILLE - Mrs. Lessie Boone Shambley of Gatesville, died January 5, 2002 at Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Va.
A funeral will be held at noon, Jan. 10, 2001 [sic] at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Suffolk, Va.
Fannie M. Casper
HOBBSVILLE - Fannie Monds Casper, 80, died December 29, 2001, in her home.
A funeral was conducted Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, by Rev. Gene Asbill and Dr. Charles Jones. Burial was in Green - Casper family Cemetery, Eure. Memorial contributions may be made to University Hospice, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
Mrs. Casper was a homemaker and a member of Warwick Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, J. Clinton Casper; two daughters, Thelma C. Harrell of Ahoskie and Christine Hollowell of Lawton, Okla.; a son, Wilbur Casper of Gatesville; a brother, Lloyd Monds of Gates; seven grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

EURE - Lillian Morings, 79, died Dec. 26, 2001.
A funeral was conducted Saturday at New Mt. Joy Worship Center. Good News Funeral Home was in charge.
Wallace L. Hobbs
SUFFOLK - Wallace Leslie Hobbs, 73, a native of Gates, died Dec. 28, 2001.
A funeral was conducted Monday at Great Fork Baptist Church by the Rev. Jonathan C. Judy. Burial was in the church cemetery. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home was in charge. Memorial donations may be made to the Great Fork Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Marion W. Carter, 1710 Colonial Ave., Suffolk, VA 23434.
Hobbs was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was a World War II Merchant Marine and Army veteran. He was also a member of the Great Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle Spivey Hobbs; a daughter, Susan H. Burrough of Oakton; a sister, Melba Musgrove of Chesapeake; brothers, Pat M. Hobbs of Dale City and Marvin E. "Joe" Hobbs of Zuni; and two grandchildren.

Edith C. Freeman
POWELLSVILLE - Edith Cowper Freeman, 93, a native of Gates County, died Dec. 28, 2001, at her home. She was the widow of J. C. Freeman.
A funeral was conducted Sunday at Garrett Funeral Home Funeral Home, Ahoskie, by the Rev. C. T. Edmondson. Donations may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Gatesville, NC.
Mrs. Freeman was a retired school teacher and a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church. She was also a member of Powellsville Women's Club.
Survivors include eight nieces and nephews.
