Edith Moody
HERTFORD - Edith Moody, 65, a native of Waterbury, Conn., died Feb. 15, 2002, at Albemarle Hospital.
A funeral was conducted at noon Friday at Lebanon Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Lycurgus Harrell. Burial was in the Moody family cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, was in charge.
Survivors include her husband, John Moody; two daughters, Shelby Moody of Hertford and Alicia Moody of Los Angeles, Calif.; a son, John A. Moody of Hawthorne; a brother, Charles Moody of Oakland; and five grandchildren.
Lila C. Parker
GATESVILLE - Lila Casper Parker, 90, a native of Gates County, died Feb. 16, 2002. She was the widow of Monnie "Marvin" Parker.
A funeral was conducted Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church, Edenton, by the Rev. Charles Lockwood and the Rev. Lester Jarrett. Burial was in Ahoskie Cemetery. Harrell Funeral Home was in charge.
Mrs. Parker was a homemaker.
Survivors include five daughters, Dorothy P. Coats of Edenton, Myrtle P. Pierce of Ahoskie, Lillie P. Hollowell of Tyner, Frances P. Brabble of Roanoke. Rapids and Louise P. Harmon of Ahoskie; one foster daughter, Lula C. Cooper of Ahoskie; two sons, McCoy Parker of Edenton and Monnie V. Parker of Ahoskie; a sister, Vennie Harrell of Hobbsville; one brother, Clinton Casper of Hobbsville; 30 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren; and 27 great - great - grandchildren.
Edward E. Boyd
EURE - Edward Earl Boyd, 59, a native of Pitt County, died Feb. 20, 2002, in his home.
A funeral was conducted Sunday in Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Gilbert Crawford. Burial was in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge.
Boyd had retired from Barnhill Construction Co. in Elizabeth City as a heavy equipment operator. He was an Army veteran and had attended Cool Spring Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Tolbert Boyd; two daughters, Debbie Ann Front of Fuquay and Tina Marie Carter of Holly Spring; three stepchildren, Teresa Lee Dorcsis of Woodbridge, Va., Colon Tyrone Stewart of Portsmouth and Donald "Pete" Bullock of Gates; a sister, Janice Faye Roberson of Pinetown; two brothers, Gary Lee Boyd of Chocowinity and Walter Whittington of Elizabeth City; 13 grandchildren; and nine great - grandchildren.
Raleigh A. Howell III
EURE - Raleigh Albert Howell III, 41, a native of Norfolk, Va., died Feb. 21, 2002, in his home.
A graveside service was conducted Saturday at Gatesville Cemetery. Harrell Funeral
Home, Gatesville, was in charge.
Howell was employed with Auto Zone.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Jeness Howell of Eure; and maternal grandmother, Ada Turner of Gatesville.
Anthony S. Fontenot
FUQUAY - VARINA - Anthony Scott Fontenot, 10, died Jan. 26,2002.
Memorial/eulogy service was conducted Wednesday at Sugg Funeral Chapel.

Fontenot; brother, Jeremy Fontenot; sister, Olivia Fontenot; grandparents, Eva Ludlum Ashworth of Holly Springs and Edward and Barbara Boyd of Eure.
Gene R. Bundy
SUFFOLK, Va. - Gene Roy Bundy, 50, a native of Gates County, died Feb. 27, 2002 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Bundy was the son of the late George and Allie Vann Bundy.
A graveside Service was conducted at 11 a.m., March 1, 2002 at Holly Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. David Jendry officiating. Contributions may be made to the Western Branch Baptist Church Building Fund, 6952 Old Myrtle Road, Suffolk, Va. 23434.
Bundy was a retired auto mechanic for Glenn Martin and was a member of the Myrtle Hunt Club. He was a former member of the Peanut City Bass Masters and the Suffolk Cosmopolitan Club.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Hedgepeth Bundy of Suffolk; two sisters, Mary Carter of Suffolk and Barbara Rountree of Corapeake; one brother, John A. Bundy of Corapeake; his adopted parents, Bobby and Joyce Keen of Suffolk, Va.
Benjamin F. Carter
EURE - Benjamin Franklin "Dick" Carter, 87, died March 1, 2002 in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk.
A funeral was conducted at 11 a.m., March 5, 2002 in Eure Christian Church. Burial with full Masonic rites was held in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Edith Carter; one son, Richard S. Carter and numerous grandchildren.

EURE - Kenneth A. Poreda, 61, of Little Island Road, died March 1, 2002.

NORFOLK, Va. - Mary Lucille Baker Knight, 90, died March 2, 2002 in Autumn Care of Norfolk.
A funeral was conducted March 7, 2002 in New Hope Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her son, James Baker of St. Louis, MO; two daughters, Pauline E. Baker - Hill of Portsmouth, Va. and Jacqueline Brooks of Norfolk, Va.; one foster son, William Newbern of San Diego, CA and one foster daughter, Lydia Gordon of Portsmouth, Va.; 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren.

EDGEWOOD, Md. - Ledora Parker Yates, 69, a native of Gates County, died March 3, 2002 in Ivy Hall Nursing Center, Baltimore MD.
A gravesode service was held March 7, 2002 at the Rooks Hill Cemetery in Gates. Burial was in the Rooks Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Douglas Parker of Edgewood, Md.; two stepchildren, Donell Porter of Virginia Beach, Va. and Doretha Odom of Newark, NJ; and a sister, Joyce Smith of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Barbara T. Wiggins
HOBBSVILLE - Barbara Taylor Wiggins, 61, a native of Richmond, Va., died March 10, 2002 in Down East Health and Rehab.
She was the daughter of the late Irvin and Clyde Cumbea Taylor. She was the wife of William "Billy" Wiggins.
She was a member of Gatesville Baptist Church and was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Chapter 1315, Suffolk, Va.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m., March 12, 2002 at Gatesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Gene Asbil. Burial was in the Carter Family Cemetery. Harrell Funeral Home, Gatesville is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, William Wiggins; three sons, Michael Umphlett of Suffolk, John Wayne Umphlett of Sunbury, and Dale Umphlett of Hamilton, Va; three stepsons, W.S. Wiggins III of Hertford, Robert Wiggins of Edenton and Kenneth Wiggins of Hobbsville; three sister, Ruby Sykes of Richmond, Doroty Parris of Mechanicsville, Va. and Ann Donathan of Powhantan; three grandchildren and four step grandchildren.
