GATES - Ella Jean White, 53, a native of Gates County, died June 8, 2002 at Obici Hospital.
White was a retired pressure after 26 years at Rental Uniform and a member of Stoney Branch Baptist Church in Gates. White was the daughter of the late Glenn M. Johnson and Henry Lewis Johnson. Her stepmother Is Albert Boone Johnson.
A funeral was held June 11, 2002 at Stoney Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Perry officiating. Burial was in the White Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters Jacqueline Boothe and Patricia Perry; one son, Deamond Nathaniel White; six sisters, Lillie Mann of Norfolk Va. Shirley Saunders of Sunbury, Naasirah Muhammad of Newport News, Va., Hazel Boone of New York, Fredia Judge of Maryland and Latorn Boone of Gates; four brothers, Robert Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Jerome Johnson and James Johnson; grandparents, John T. Johnson, Henderson Eure, Lillie Eure and Chestina Johnson; five grandchildren.

EDENTON - Wallace Eugene Holley, 43, a native of Suffolk, Va., died June 8, 2002 in Chowan Hospital, Edenton.
A funeral was conducted June 13, 2002 at Blanchard's Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Ferebee officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Holley of Edenton; one daughter, Sheria Holley of Gates; three stepdaughters, Tracy Brown, Sonda Brown and Treketa Brown, all of Elizabeth City; a stepson, Julius Brown of Columbus, Ohio: his parents, James C. and Daisy L. Jordan Holley of Gates; two brothers, James R. Holley of Corapeake and Crandall C. Holley of Sunbury; one sister, Paula E. Walker of Hobbsville; maternal grandmother, Minnie Bell - Brown and step - grandfather, James E. Brown of Gates; and 15 step - grandchildren.

AHOSKIE - Diane Wiggins Futrell, 56, a native of Hertford County, died June 12, 2002.
Futrell was a member of Soul Saving Station.

GATES - Dillard Eure, 62, of Gates, died June 18, 2002 at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City.
Eure was a member of Stoney Branch Baptist Church.
A funeral was conducted June 20, 2002 at Stoney Branch Baptist Church with the Bishop Ella Bethea officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Alvin Boone Sr. of Murfreesboro, Tobias Boone of Ahoskie and Kenneth Wayne Boone of Greenville, SC; two brothers, Charlie Eure of Eure and Joe Eure of Gates: one sister, Joan Smallwood of Murfreesboro and five grandchildren.

SUFFOLK, VA - Mary Ann Wright, 63, a native of Crisfield, Maryland, died June 16, 2002.
Wright was the daughter of Geneva Thomas of Suffolk and the late James Ames She was a companion nurse.
A funeral was conducted June 22, 2002 in Faith Temple Apostolic Church by Bishop Obadiah Colander. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Norfleet of Charleston, SC and Marcella Jenkins of Radcliff, Ky: two sons, James Wright Jr. and William Wright; a sister, Helen Boone of Gates; six grandchildren, and two great - grandchildren.

"Our Little Angel"
Maegan Rose Gregory, infant daughter of D.J. and Jenny Crowder Gregory, became our little angel in heaven on Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, NC.
Surviving in addition to her parents, are her maternal grandparents, John and Jane Crowder of Leiand, NC; paternal grandparents, Don and Sue Gregory of Gates, NC; maternal great - grandfather, John D. Crowder, Jr. of Durham, NC; paternal great - grandmothers, Norma Bonney of Elizabeth City, NC and Mary Gregory of Shiloh, NC; and her aunts and uncles, Joseph and Betsy Crowder and their son, Madison, Melinda and Darryl Byrum and their daughters, Victoria and Catherine, and Dennis and Michelle Gregory and their son, D.J.
Funeral services were held at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church in Leiand at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2002 by the Rev. Claude Gamble. The family was at the home of John and Jane Crowder, 131 Lee Dr., Leiand.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2002 by the Rev. Terry Williams at West Lawn Cemetery in Elizabeth City, NC. Sunday, the family was at the home of Norma Bonney, 1300 W. Church St., in Elizabeth City.
Memorials may be made to a children's charity of one's choice.
Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Terry A. Crawford
EURE - Terry Alien Crawford, 40, of the 1100 block of US 158, W., died May 27, 2002 in Suffolk, Va. as the result of an automobile accident.
Crawford was born in Suffolk and was an electrician with AMARK Contracting.
A graveside service was held May 31, 2002 in the family cemetery by the Rev. Wayne Gardner and the Rev. Stewart McCarter.
Survivors include a daughter, Karlyn Made Crawford of the home, his mother, Shirley Crawford Bruce of Eure: a sister, Rebecca C. Parks of Gates and a brother, Sammy Crawford Jr. of Eure.
Helen H. Taylor
SUFFOLK, Va. - Helen Ttdwell Horton Taylor, 81, died May 28, 2002 at Obici Hospital.
Taylor is a native of Nansemond County, Va. and was the daughter of the late james and Mallie Harcum Tidwell and widow of Frank Royal Taylor. She was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church.
A funeral was held May 30, 2002 at Liberty Spring Christian Church by the Rev. Sallye hardy with burial in the church cemetery. James M. Hobbs
HOBBSVILLE - James Marvin "Tooter" Hobbs, 80, of the 500 block of Hobbsville Road, died May 28, 2002, in his home.
Hobbs was a native of Gates County and was the son of the late Percy D and Eva Jane Barnes Hobbs. He had retired from the NC Dept. of Transportation, was a member of Hobbsville Baptist Church, and had served in the 11th Armored Division of the U.S. Army during World War II under Gen. George S. Patton.
A funeral was held May 30, 2002 in Hobbsville Baptist Church by Dr. Stephen E. Loftis. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife. Lois Chappell Hobbs: a daughter. Colleen H. Taylor: a son Al Hobbs, all of Hobbsville: a sister, Barbara H. Blanchard of Sunbury; a brother, Edward Hobbs of Virginia Beach, Va.; five grandchildren.
