Florence Bethea
Kernersville - Mrs. Florence Evon Crews Rothrock Bethea, 59, died Oct. 1, 1999, at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born in Forsyth County, a daughter of James Clarence and Argie Osborne Crews. She was a charter member of Freedom Wesleyan Church, where she served on the board of Stewards at the church. She also was a Sunday school teacher, a special singer and had retired from Sara Lee Sock Co. with 29 years of service.
Surviving are her husband, Charles Bethea; a daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Mark Lorenz of Kernersville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence and Lorraine Rothrock of Greensboro, and Joe and Cynthia Rothrock of High Point; four brothers, Ronald Crews of King, Herman Crews and James Crews, both of Salisbury, and Kenneth Crews of Escondido, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Grayson Crews Lorenz, Heather McAlister and Jennifer Kearns.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Chapel in Kernersville by the Rev. H.A. Lewis. Burial will be in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her daughter, 1411 Bonvon Drive.

Lexington - Ms. Agnes C. Everhart, 98, died Oct. 1, 1999.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Ralph Hoover
Trinity - Ralph Junior Hoover, 63, of 2588 Parrish Farm Road died Oct. 1, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Jan. 17, 1936, in Randolph County, a son of James and Lela Wall Hoover. He was owner and operator of Hoover Auto Sales and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are one sister, Peggy Kennedy of Trinity and several nephews and nieces, including Curtis Hoover and his wife, Brenda, Dale Hoover and his wife, Lynn, all of Trinity, Craig Hoover and his wife, Wendy, of Lexington, Austin Sellers and his wife, Amanda, of Thomasville, Tammy Palmer and Ellen Hoover, both of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Burial will be in Deep River Friends Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of his nephew, Curtis R. Hoover, 300 Lane Drive.
Howard Leff
High Point - Howard Leff, U.S. Postal worker in High Point and Oregon for 20 years and president of the Letter Carriers Union, Local 936 NALC for 9 years, began his new eternal route Sept. 30, 1999.
He served as a member and representative at the Founding Convention of the Labor Party and was an active supporter for social justice and workers' rights. "The Leff Man" also served as a community volunteer for public radio in both Oregon and North Carolina.
Surviving are his wife; three children; his mother; a brother; and a sister.
Memorial service and picnic to follow will be held 1-6 p.m. Sunday at Creekside Park in Archdale. Please bring a covered dish and join in celebration of his life.
Memorials may be directed and would be gratefully accepted by Duke University Medical Center for cancer research or the Labor Party, Greensboro branch.
William Myers
High Point - William Earl Myers, 82, of 656 Merry Hills Drive died Sept. 30, 1999. at his residence after several years of declining health.
He was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Lincolnton County, Ga., a son of William Earl and Beulah Green Myers. He had been a resident of High Point since 1924. He was a self-employed home builder, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Green Street Baptist Church, the Jesse Watson Sunday School Class and a former deacon. On Oct. 30, 1942, he married the former Dorothy Lucille Farlow, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are one daughter, Patricia Gayle “Patty” Birt and her husband, William, of Gastonia; one granddaughter, Emily Suzanne Birt, a student at UNCG; and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Moore of High Point. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Tony Myers; and four sisters, Irene Kivett, Leona Glisson, Pauline McMahon and Helen McCormick.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Green Street Baptist Church by the Rev. C.W. Moss, the Rev. Gene A. Phillips and Dr. Elliot B. Stewart. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, E. Lexington Avenue, until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Phil Miller, Max Miller, David Miller, John Miller, Bobby Miller and Floyd Evans Jr.

Larry Snyder
Kernersville - Larry Lindsay Snyder, 56, of 2265 N.C. 66 South died Oct. 1, 1999, at his residence.
He was born March 15, 1943, in High Point, a son of James Harvey and Lillie Haltom Snyder. A lifelong Kernersville resident, he was a member of First Church of God in Archdale. He had been employed by the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system transportation department for the past 30 years. On March 5, 1966, he married Evalene Green, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Laura) Phillips of Sophia and Mrs. Martin (Amy) Sain of Kernersville; two grandchildren, Kathryn Ariel Sain and Drake Addison Phillips; three brothers, Tommy Snyder and his wife, Lillian, of Kernersville, Don Snyder and his wife, Jolene, of Archdale, and Richard Snyder and his wife, Phyllis, of Salisbury; and one sister, Mrs. Grover (Hazel) Goodwin of Greensboro.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Hallie Scott. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.

Vernon Story
High Point - The Rev. Vernon Gordon Story, 89, a retired Wesleyan minister, of 1909-K N. Centennial St. went to be with the Lord Sept. 27, 1999, following a short illness.
He was born July 27, 1910, in Denair, Calif., a son of Robert and Cora Anstress Story.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Ella Grace Cowles Story; four daughters, Aletha (Jim) Sheets of Greensboro, Becky (H.A.) Lewis of Winston-Salem, Carolyn (David) Fowler of Portland, Ore., and Dorothy (Breck) Skinner of Boise, Idaho; two sons, Dr. Vernon (Barbara) Story of San Pedro, Calif., and Dr. Ken Story of Philadelphia; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Stacia Sheets; two sisters, Olive Walton and Ena Schendel; and one brother, Luther.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday at First Wesleyan Church, 1915 N. Centennial St. Burial will be in Westminster Gardens, Greensboro. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service, 300 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, and other times at the residence in High Point and the residence of Aletha and Jim Sheets, 4811 N. Church St., Greensboro.

High Point - Mrs. Fannie Lee Wall Melton, 75, of 1900 Eastchester Drive died Oct. 1, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Retha Alford of High Point; and two sisters, Mrs. Cora Cates of Albemarle and Mrs. Frances Hall of Norwood.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith’s Funeral Home in Albemarle. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Church Cemetery in Ansonville.

Janet Stanley
Archdale - Mrs. Janet Barneycastle Stanley, 36, of 2420 Murray Circle died Oct. 1, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Aug. 24, 1963, in High Point, a daughter of Foy and Judy Carmichael Barneycastle. She was a graduate of Ledford High School and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was a teacher for 13 years with Guilford County Schools, teaching at Shadybrook Elementary School. She was a member of the North Carolina Education Association. She was also a member of Green Street Baptist Church and the Jim Ward Sunday School Class. On June 11, 1988, she married Keith David Stanley, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Foy Barneycastle of Leasburg.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Green Street Baptist Church by Rev. Harvey Rowe and Richard Hardee. Entombment will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Sechrest Funeral Home, E. Lexington Avenue, and other times at the home of her aunt, Mrs. D.C. Dabbs, 2103 Laura Lane, High Point.
