Lexington - Glimpsy McQueen Coleman, 77, of Sunbridge of Lexington, formerly of Stratford Road, died at 9:25 p.m. April 25, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Mary Cranford
Thomasville - Mrs. Mary Frances Hill Cranford, 94, of 200 Quail Hollow Road, formerly of Johnsontown Road, died April 26, 2000, at her residence.
She was born March 22, 1906, in Randolph County, a daughter of Hilton and Martha Millikan Hill, who preceded her in death. She retired from Amazon Mills of Thomasville and was of the Holiness faith. On May 3, 1924, she married Seth Rufus Cranford, who preceded her in death May 26, 1986. She also was preceded in death by a son, Norman Cranford.
Surviving are a daughter, Ms. Shirley Hunt of the residence; a son, Kenneth Cranford of Christiansburg, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Carlettie Hall of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. David L. White. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Annie Hughes
Thomasville - Mrs. Annie Bell Hilton Hughes, 66, of 243 Tom Hedrick Road died at 1047 a.m. April 26, 2000, at Community General Hospital in Thomasville.
She was born Sept. 10, 1933, in Davidson County, a daughter of Ralph Leon and Lula Bell Ensley Hilton, who preceded her in death. She retired from Zach’s Hosiery Mill and she was a member of New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church, formerly Lake Road Baptist Church. She married Marshall Lee Hughes, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Chad (Sandy) Wilson and Mrs. Glen (Marsha) Yetman, both of Thomasville; a son, Willie Hughes and his wife, Katie, of Salisbury; a sister, Mrs. Ken (Peggy) Coe of Thomasville; a brother, Bobby Hilton and his wife, Paula, of Thomasville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. A.C. Hill. Burial will be in Hughes Grove Baptist Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Essie Jones
Thomasville - Mrs. Essie Rothrock Jones, 84, died April 26, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born May 25, 1915, in Davidson County, a daughter of P. Dewitt and Ida Myers Rothrock. She was a lifelong resident of Thomasville. She was a member of Fair Grove United Methodist Church, where she served on the administrative board, as an assistant Sunday school teacher of the Christian Fellowship Class, past member of the executive board of the United Methodist Women, the Mary Crouse Circle and was a charter member of the Belle Bennett Guild. She married Claude W. “Jack” Jones, who preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1988.
Surviving are a daughter, Diana J. Crews of Bassett, Va.; two grandchildren, Lisa C. Atkins of Naples, Fla., and Richard N. Crews and his wife, Angie, of Thomasville; a great-granddaughter, Erin Sides of Naples; two sisters, Vaden R. Blizzard of High Point and Blanche R. Fritts of Thomasville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Fair Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. David L. White. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at J.C. Green & Son Funeral Home until the hour of service. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Thomasville - Eva Jane Jones, 75, of 702 E. Guilford St. died April 25, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service.

Ruth Stiegel
High Point - Mrs. Ruth Lavayhn Carlton Stiegel, 67, of 1515 Woodside Ave., Apt. E, died April 25, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Oct. 13, 1932, in Wilkes County, a daughter of Conard Woodrow and Ella Parson Carlton. She was a resident of High Point for 15 years and previously had lived in Arlington, Fla. She was a bank teller and was of the Baptist faith. She married Harry Stiegel Jr., who preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, Barry Alvin Stiegel of Alaska; and a brother, Brice Carlton of High Point.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Larry Adams, the Rev. Dean Adams and the Rev. Jim Parrish. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Mary Turner
High Point - Miss Mary Wanza Turner, 83, of High Point Presbyterian Home died April 24, 2000.
She was born July 15, 1916, in Gaffney, S.C., a daughter of William A. and Lily Robbs Turner, and was a victim of cerebral palsy at birth. She attended Central School in Gaffney and graduated from Cedar Springs School for the Physically Impaired in Spartanburg, S.C. She worked with her father and mother at W.A. Turner Grocery on Victoria Avenue. After their deaths, she moved to High Point to live with her sister, Lucile T. High. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gaffney. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in High Point.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Lily Turner; three nephews, Thomas Turner of Charlotte, Bryan Turner of Charlotte and Dan Yarborough of Hendersonville; a niece, Sheri Turner of Miami; five first cousins, Jean Robbs Barnhill, Herbert W. Robbs, Marjorie Robbs Steadman, Lorena Robbs Cothran of Gaffney and Katie Robbs Miller of Orlando, Fla.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m., May 11, at First Baptist Church Chapel, Gaffney, S.C.

C. Archibald
High Point - Mrs. Catherine Archibald, 88, a resident of the Evergreens Nursing Center, died there April 21, 2000.
She was born Jan. 31, 1912 in Paulding, Ohio, to Francis and Reina White Sullivan. She had been a resident of High Point since 1991.
She was the widow of Frank Archibald who during the 1930s was a professional boxer known as “Frankie Jarr” who at one time was the bantamweight champion of Indiana.
She is survived by a daughter, Kay Urbine of Mooresville; a son, Frank James Archibald of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a brother, Bernard Sullivan of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held later in Fort Wayne. Arrangements are by Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
Irene Bailey
Linwood - Irene Swicegood Bailey, 85, of 8720 Old Salisbury Road, died April 23, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home of Carolyn Potter, Old Salisbury Road.
Clyde Darr
Winston-Salem - Clyde Ernest Darr, 94, of E. Devonshire Street, died April 22, 2000, at The Oaks of Forsyth.
He was born in Davidson County on July 20, 1905, to Edgar Lee and Fannie Clinard Darr. He retired from Fogle Furniture Co. with 43 years of service. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Thomasville and attended Pinedale Christian Church for many years. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Willie, Ray, Clarence and Roby Darr; and one sister, Mary Darr Kanoy.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Whitt Darr; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Don Charles; one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Betty Darr, all of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Donny and Mark Charles, Lori C. Sullivan, Anne D. Colbert and David Darr; six great-grandchildren, Timothy, Emily, Melanie, Isaac and Elizabeth Charles, and Taylor Colbert, all of Winston-Salem; one brother, Everett Darr, and wife, Evelyn, of Thomasville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Buddy Champion, the Rev. Bill McKenzie and Pastor Donny Charles officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Larry Embler
High Point - Lacy Odell Embler, 81, of Horneytown Road, died April 23, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Guilford County to General and Fannie Proctor Embler. He had been a life-long resident of High Point and was retired from Silver Craft Furniture Co. He was a member of First Church of Christ.
On July 3, 1940, he married the former Mildred Gray who survives of the home. Also surviving are two daughters, Patricia Skeen and husband, Arthur, of Sophia, and Anna Jean Pierce and husband, Mike, of High Point; three grandchildren, Susan Burrows, Cynthia McAden and Mark Pierce; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maude Southern, of Thomasville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Church of Christ by the Rev. Allen Brown. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
Amanda Franks
Thomasville - Mrs. Amanda Overton Franks, 92, died April 21, 2000, at Mission Street Josephs Hospital in Asheville.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. David Best and the Rev. George Williamson. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until the hour of the service.
Willie Hall
Jamestown - Willie “J.D.” Eugene Hall, 72, of 3905 E. Kivett Drive, died April 23, 2000, at his residence.
He was born July 19, 1927, in Stokes County to Willie Ausborn and Fannie Frye Hall. He was retired from Peerless Flooring Co. He was of the Baptist faith.
On Dec. 30, 1945, he married the former Betty Bowman who survives of the home. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lynda Kiser and her husband, Jerry, of Jamestown; a son, Tommy E. Hall and his wife, Shirley, of Jamestown; six grandchildren, Scott Hall, Kamie Bullins, Ashley Case, Jennifer Hall, Jamie Kiser and Jody Kiser; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Irene Ditto of Liberty, Ruth Ross of Sophia, Otelia Conner of Gainsville, Fla., Nova May of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Betty Jean Michael of Denton; three brothers, Clarence Hall of Winston-Salem, Donald Hall of Archdale and Rayford Hall of Cocoa Beach, Fla.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
