Violet Bottoms
Thomasville - Miss Violet Lucille Bottoms, 83, of Britthaven of Davidson, formerly of High Point, died May 5, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
She was born March 16, 1917, in Guilford County, a daughter of John and Sallie Newsome Bottoms. She was a member of Oakview Methodist Church, High Point.
Surviving are two brothers, Grady Bottoms of High Point and the Rev. Floyd Bottoms of Caser.
Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. E.R. Reavis in Oakwood Memorial Park. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be directed to Oakview United Methodist Church, 321 Oakview Road, High Point, N.C. 27265.
Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, is in charge of arrangements.

Beulah Callahan
High Point - Mrs. Beulah Malone Callahan, 87, of 4738 Chestnut Drive Ext. died May 4, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 11, 1912, in Sweetwater, Tenn., a daughter of Frank and Lela Picklesimer Malone. She had been employed at Adams-Millis Inc. and was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church in Archdale. She married Howard R. Callahan, who preceded her in death June 5, 1981.
Surviving are a son, Billy Don Brown of High Point; a grandson, Richard Donald Brown of High Point; and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Bray of High Point.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Faith Baptist Church, Archdale, by the Rev. Stephen L. Welborn. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park.
Memorials may be directed to Faith Baptist Church, 5744 Mendenhall Road, Archdale, N.C. 27263.
Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, is in charge of arrangements.

Joe Charles Sr.
Lexington - Joe Holland Charles Sr., 67, of West 5th St. died at 10:40 a.m. May 5, 2000, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital after a serious illness of two and one-half months.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Lexington City Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral home.

Ross Evans
Sophia - Ross Armond Evans, 69, formerly of Charlotte, died May 4, 2000, at the residence of his daughter, 2098 Old Plank Road.
He was born Jan. 10, 1931, in Asheville, a son of Herbert and Sue Galloway Evans. He was a retired truck driver and was of the Baptist faith. He married the former Gladys Evans, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Darlene Osborne of Sophia and Rose Evans Ward of Greensboro; a son, Marshall Evans of Shelby; seven sisters, Mrs. Wilma Teague of Canton, Mrs. Hilda Ballard of Asheville, Mrs. Vera Green of Cruso, Mrs. Louise Surratt of Swannona, Mrs. Ann Dortmundt, Mrs. Sara Branch and Mrs. Mary Ruth Ray, all of Reidsville; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Charlotte, by the Rev. Larry Wells. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, and other times at the residence of Darlene Osborne, 2098 Old Plank Road.
Memorials may be directed to Center of Living, Home, Health and Hospice, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, N.C. 27203.

Letha Lambeth
Thomasville - Mrs. Letha 'Jean' Lambeth, 60, of 600 Raleigh Road, #21, died May 3, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
She was born July 9, 1939, in Anson County, a daughter of William and Juanita Phillips Gilmore. She was a lifelong resident of this area. She was a homemaker and a member of Kennedy Road Freewill Baptist Church. She married Billy Lambeth, who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Lambeth.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rhonda G. Lovett and her husband, Don, of Linwood and Mrs. Debbie Grindstaff and her husband, Vernon 'Bunny,' of Thomasville; a son, William L. Lambeth and his wife, Patricia, of Lexington; three sisters, Mrs. Patricia Payne of Thomasville, Linda Martin of the residence and Toni Sexton of Archdale; grandchildren, Missy, Jennifer, Nikki, Samantha, Jason, Brook, Robbie and Brad; great-grandchild, Christian; and a special uncle, Rich Gilmore.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Near Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, Lexington, by the Rev. Jimmy Barbour. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the residence of her daughter, Debbie Grindstaff, 243 Capel Drive. The body will be at the funeral home until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

John Little
Asheboro - John Wayne Little of 2120 Lamar Drive, died May 4, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at Worthville Baptist Church, Castlerock Road, Worthville. Visitation will be at the residence.
Gailes Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Stanley Mills
Harwood, Md. - Stanley 'Stan' L. Mills, 79, of Maryland Manor, formerly of Wheaton, Md., died May 4, 2000 at North Arundel Hospital.
He was born May 20, 1921, in Crisfield, Md. In 1941 he married Elizabeth Teague Mills, who preceded him in death in 1986. In 1961-1963 he was owner of Mills Music Co., Wheaton. He was an electrical engineer for DC Vending, where he worked 20 years on vending machines, slot machines, juke boxes and learned how to work on computer chips. When the machines went to computer chips, he traveled to California to learn and continue his work on the chips.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, submarine service out of New London, Conn. and served during World War II and Korea. He was an instructor for Patuxent River Power Squadron during the 1950s. He was a member of the American Legion, Mayo Civil Association, Power Squadron, Harbor Club or Herald Harbor. His hobbies were fishing, boating, making things and he enjoyed his workshop. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Ronda Mills
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Doyle of Crownsville and Donna Flippo of Bowie; a sister, Edith Johnson of Kissimmee, Fla.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 5 p.m. Sunday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, Md. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

Rhonda Rutledge
Thomasville - Ms. Rhonda Lynn Rutledge, 39, of 1024 Blair St., Apt. 6, died April 5, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home of Winston-Salem.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Monday at Friendship Baptist Church. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
S.E. Thomas Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Max Wright
Thomasville - Max Duffy Wright, 74, of 405 Cox Ave., died May 4, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 12, 1926, a son of Bynum A. and Vesta Snider Wright. He was a lifelong resident of Thomasville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. He was a former owner and operator of Wrights Grocery and later was owner and operator of Duffy Oil Co. and Service Station. He was a member of Unity United Methodist Church, a former member of the Thomasville Jaycees and the Thomasville Lions Club. On Feb. 21, 1947, he married Miss Nancy Joyce Bodenheimer, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Miss A. Carolyn Wright of Raleigh; and a sister, Mrs. Casey (Betty Ann) Jones of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Unity United Methodist Church by the Rev. DeForest E. Hillyer Jr. and the Rev. Wilbur A. Jarrett. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Service until the hour of service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Building Fund of Unity United Methodist Church, 134 Circle Drive, Thomasville, N.C. 27360 or to the Davidson County Heart Association, c/o Teresa Coble, 304 Homestead Drive, Lexington, N.C. 27292.

Paul Beck
Lexington - Paul Edward Allen Beck, 88, of Shuler Circle, Thomasville, formerly of Paul Beck Road, Lexington, died at 11:40 p.m. May 8, 2000, at Piedmont Center.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Hedricks Grove United Church of Christ. Visitation will be after the service in the church's fellowship hall.
