John Eagle Sr.
Thomasville - John 'Henry' Eagle Sr., 92, of 920 Hasty School Road died May 12, 2000, in Graybrier Nursing center.
He was born Nov. 18, 1907, in Rowan County, a son of George Scott and Essie Summey Eagle. He retired from Globe Furniture Co. after 43 years of service and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a charter member of Hasty Lions Club and served as secretary and president.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher and church usher. He had perfect Sunday School attendance for 47 years.
He was married June 15, 1933, to Mrs. Hattie Mae Weaver Eagle, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Kevil (Carolyn) Hughes of Lexington and Mrs. Bernard (Mary Louise) Chapman of Thomasville; a son, 'John' Henry Eagle Jr. of Kingston Nova Scotia Canada; one sister, Miss Janice Marie Barrier of Salisbury; grandchildren, Christina Hughes Walters, Maureen Eagle Aalders, Brenda Burton, Kelvin Hughes, Stephen Eagle, Jonathan Iselin and Jathaniel Iselin; great-grandchildren, Chistiana Walters, Breanne Aalders, Brennan Aalders, Anthony Hughes, Corrina Walters, Emilie Hughes, Makenna Iselin and Candice Burton.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Eagle Whisnant Major, Pauline Barrier Caraturo and Helen Barrier and one brother, Clyde M. Eagle.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. B. Joe Parker and Dr. James Summey officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home and other times at the home, 920 Hasty School Road, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

Ray Giles
Archdale - Ray C. Giles, 83, of 312 Playground Road died May 13, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Guilford County, a son of W.M. and Linnie Bolling Giles. He was a graduate of Allen Jay High School and attended High Point College. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He retired from Burlington Industries after 46 years of service.
He was a member of the Archdale United Methodist Church, the Adult Fellowship Class and the Woodman of the World. On May 6, 1938, he married the former Mildred Winslow, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Jarvis and husband, Frank, of Trinity; a son, Randy Giles and wife, Beverly, of Trinity; two grandsons, Chris Jarvis and Terry Giles Jr. and wife, Samantha, and a step-grandson, Michael Allen Jr. and wife, Nikki.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday from Archdale United Methodist Church by Dr. Mary John Dye. Interment will be in Springfield Friends Meeting Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service in Archdale.

Hazel Hurt
Thomasville - Mrs. Hazel Elmore Hurt, 73, of 7112 Young Oak Drive died May 12, 2000, at Community General Hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks after a year of declining health.
She was born in Randolph County, a daughter of Ms. Lena Bell Harris. She was a lifetime resident of Thomasville and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Her husband, Eddie Hurt Sr., died Aug. 25, 1988. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Cramer Harris.
Surviving are four sons, Terry Wayne Hurt (Selena) of Newport News, Va., Curtis Ray Hurt (Catherine), Eddie Hurt Jr. (Ida) and Donald Hurt, all of Thomasville; 23 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Rosie Mae Hudson of Thomasville. There are other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Friendship Baptist Church by the Rev. H.N. Goode. Burial will follow in City Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church and other times at the residence of Mrs. Rosie Mae Hudson, 21 Warner St.

Richard Kearns
High Point - Richard Allan Kearns, 43, of 138 Buena Vista Ave. died May 11, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Dec. 6, 1956, in Guilford County, a son of James Edgar and Desma Louise Hill Kearns. He was in the construction business and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Ann Kearns and Jennifer Louise Kearns, both of High Point; his parents of the home; a loving sister, Sandi Kearns of High Point, and a brother, Jerry Kearns of Yucca, Ariz.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sechrest Chapel in High Point by the Rev. Charles Fernandez.

High Point - Andrew Montana King, 1, died May 11, 2000.
He was born April 19, 1999, in Winston-Salem, a son of Shannon Leigh Read and Anthony Lee King.
Surviving are his mother of 1010 Manley St.; his father of 1037 Johnsontown Road, Thomasville; one brother, Cody Dylan Read of High Point; his maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Donald and Cornelia Grainger, of High Point; maternal grandfather, Sanford Lewis Hedgecock Jr., of High Point; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Tony King of Thomasville; maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Alpha Allred Hedgecock of High Point and paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rozier of Sophia.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sechrest Funeral Chapel on E. Lexington Avenue in High Point by the Rev. Richard A. King. Interment will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Hassalyne Walker
High Point - Mrs. Hassalyne Brewer Thomas Walker, 75, of 910 Marlboro St. died May 12, 2000.
She was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Randolph County, a daughter of George M. and Nannie Ellis Brewer. She was a graduate of High Point High School and was a resident of High Point most of her life. She was former owner and manager of Community Credit and retired in 1987 from Kentucky Finance Co. She was a member of Green Street Baptist Church, where she was baptized in 1934. She was a member of the Helen Bowman Sunday School Class, a caller for the Sunshine Fellowship Club and a Mobile Meals volunteer.
Surviving are a son, Barry Thomas and his wife, Brenda, of High Point; a brother, Ernest Brewer of Lewisville; two grandsons, Randy Thomas of Statesville and Paul Thomas of Snow Camp; a granddaughter, Terri Wilson of High Point; two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sechrest Funeral Service Chapel by the Rev. Gene Phillips. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.

George Williams Jr.
Lexington - George Washington Williams Jr., 84, of 500 Western Blvd. died May 11, 2000, at his residence.
He was born March 15, 1916, in Stokes County, a son of the Rev. George Washington and Minnie Hudson Williams. He was a resident of Davidson County most of his life and a member of First United Methodist Church. He retired as vice president of sales from Bryant Electric of High Point, with 40 years of service.
He was married to the former Sarah Holmes Harrison, who preceded him in death Dec. 18, 1995.
Surviving are three daughters, the Rev. Sara W. Jacobson of Chickasha, Okla., Mary Frances Williams of Cary and Sandra W. Lefler of Greensboro; two sons, George W. Williams III of Houston and David H. Williams of High Point; a sister, Mildred W. Teague of Rocky Mount; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Timberlake Chapel at Piedmont Funeral Home by the Rev. J. Larry Jacobson. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Polly Yow
High Point - Miss Polly Owen Yow, 63, fomerly of 417 West Ninth St., Siler City, died May 13, 2000, at Sunbridge Health Center.
She was born May 4, 1937, in High Point, a daughter of Eustace and Flossie Owen Yow. She was a graduate of Pembroke University where she majored in music. She retired from Chatham County Schools and Chatham Central High School. She taught music throughout Chatham County for many years. She was renowned for her musical talent and abilities. She worked for many years as a professional entertainer. In High Point, she was active in the Jaycee Jollies for many years.
Surviving are a brother, Gene Yow of High Point and several nieces and nephews. She also had two special friends, Diane Whitehead and Randy Johnson of Siler City.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Welch Memorial United Methodist Church, 2405 Bellemeade Street, High Point. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Sechrest Funeral Service, 1301 E. Lexington Ave., High Point.

Ethel Barnes
Lexington - Ethel Elizabeth Rooker Barnes, 71, of 184-C Hill Everhart Road, died May 13, 2000, at Community General Hospital in Thomasville.
She was born July 11, 1928, in Ebony, Va., a daughter of Russell Rooker and Rebecca Carrol Rooker. She was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. On Sept. 28, 1945, she married Grover C. Barnes, who preceded her in death July 29, 1989.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Hedrick of Lexington and Mrs. Dorothy Marie Toler of Trinity; two sons, Grover C. Barnes Jr. and James Edward Barnes, both of High Point; one sister, Mrs. Vergie King of Roanoke Rapids; two brothers, James Rooker of Valentine, Va. and Roy Rooker of Littleton; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Family Funeral Care in Thomasville. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. A second service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hockaday Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids.
Another visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hockaday Funeral Home.

Lexington - Arbra Basil Billings Jr., 52, died May 13, 2000.

Lois Cranford
Thomasville - Mrs. Lois Kennedy Cranford, 80, of 486 Harrison Hedrick Road died May 13, 2000, at her residence.
She was born May 11, 1920, in Davidson County, a daughter of Ranson Dalford and Florence Chapel Kennedy. She had been a lifelong resident of this area. She and her husband, John Willard Cranford, were owners and operators of the T-Ville Diner for 21 years. Upon her retirement in 1980, she was employed with T-Ville Diner until her health failed a few months ago.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. On Oct. 25, 1949, she was married to John Willard Cranford, who died April 6, 1993. She also was preceded in death by a son, Jack P. Chapel.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Betty Hughes and her husband, Harold, of Lexington; Mrs. Jessie Freeman of Hickory; Mrs. Brenda Hill and her husband, Odell, of Lexington; Mrs. Donna C. Wright and her husband, Larry, of Lexington and Sherry C. Everhart of Thomasville; two sons, James Freddie Cranford and his wife, Kay, of Thomasville and John Eddie Cranford and his wife, Pat, of Thomasville; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Carroll M. Upton. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of the son, James Freddie Cranford of 416 Harrison Hedrick Road.
