Hubert Goode Jr.
High Point - Hubert C. Goode Jr., 42, of 1212 Ragan St. died May 9, 2000.
He was born July 25, 1957, in Kings Mountain, a son of Hubert C. and Theresa Harris Goode, who both preceded him in death. He was educated in the Guilford County schools and was a member of Living Waters Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Robbin Renee McNeil Goode; three stepsons, Leterrius McNeil, Denorrius McNeil and Willie Marshall, all of High Point; a daughter, Michelle Marshall of High Point; a brother, Marquez Goode and his wife, Patrisha Goode of Mary Esther, Fla.; three sisters, Rhydona Goode Adams and her husband, Caesar, of Jacksonville, Fla., Michelle Goode and Bertha Goode, both of High Point; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, a special friend, James Robert McManus and his wife, Pearline McNeil McManus.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hargett-Gilmore Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Richard Howze. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:30-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Jewell Hicks
High Point - Mrs. Jewell Holbrook Hicks, 78, of 2008 Hickswood Road died May 11, 2000, at Wesleyan Arms Inc. She had been in declining health for six years.
She was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Guilford County, a daughter of John Andrew and Lena Pitts Holbrook. She was employed at Wee Sock-Commonwealth Hosiery Mill, prior to her retirement and was a member of Christ Community Church. On May 24, 1947, she married Troy Willard Hicks Sr., who preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1971.
Surviving are one daughter, Ms. Denise Sutton of 2012 Hickswood Road; a son, Troy Willard Hicks Jr. of 2019 Hickswood Road; three grandchildren, Mrs. Cherie Causey Avants, Emily Hicks and Mrs. Stephanie Hicks Sims; a sister, Mrs. W.A. (Lucille) McDowell; and two brothers, Alvin L. Holbrook of the residence and Douglas R. Holbrook of Newton Groove.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Sechrest Chapel, E. Lexington Avenue, by the Rev. Jeff Palmer. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of her son.

Lexington - Johnny Hill, 51, of 227 Flynt St. died May 11, 2000, at Veterans Hospital, Salisbury.

Edith Iveigh
High Point - Mrs. Edith Ferrell Iveigh, 96, of 590 Greensboro Road died May 10, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born in Columbus County, Feb. 11, 1904, a daughter of John Christopher and Stella Mason Ferrell. She and her husband, Joseph, were co-owners of Industrial Sprinkler, High Point Sprinkler, and Associated Sprinkler. She also was a homemaker. She was a member of Montlieu United Methodist Church and the Iveigh Sunday School Class. On Feb. 28, 1937, she married Joseph Iveigh, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are a nephew, Bill Kemp of Jamestown; three nieces, Gaynelle Latta and her husband, Paul, of Raleigh, Edna Earle Maclean and her husband, Howard, of Raleigh and Nancy Kemp of Raleigh; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Henry Ferrell of Durham and Sue Iveigh McLaughlin of High Point; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Montlieu United Methodist Church by the Rev. Nathan Snider, the Rev. Richard Crowder and the Rev. Corneilius Holland. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8 tonight at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home.

Coy Nicholson
Thomasville - The Rev. Coy Otis Nicholson, 74, of 302 Lawing Drive died May 11, 2000, at his residence. He was born May 14, 1925, in Patrick County, Va., a son of Roy Esley Nicholson and Maude Ethel Plaster Nicholson, who both preceded him in death. He was a U.S. Army veteran, receiving the Purple Heart while serving during World War II in the European Theater. He was an evangelist, who had a great love for people, especially senior citizens. He was a radio evangelist, preaching through his program 'Living By Faith' broadcast on WGOS AM every Sunday morning. He visited and ministered to patients, homebound patients, retirement homes and nursing homes. He was a director of the Triad Senior Meetings at Loflin's Restaurant in Thomasville. He preached Sunday mornings at the Carolina House in Lexington and held monthly meetings at the Oaks, Greybriar and Beverly Health Care facilities. He was known as the 'Whistle Stop Cafe Chaplain' in Thomasville. He was a member of Christian Cathedral in Thomasville.
He first married Alma Smith Nicholson, who preceded him in death May 10, 1995. He later married Mrs. Pearl Stout Royals, who survives of the residence. He also was preceded in death by two sons, Coy Otis Nicholson Jr. and Rodney Dwight Nicholson and a brother, Raymond Esley Nicholson.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Linda) Jones of High Point and Mrs. Teresa Shaver of Bunn; two sons, Jim Nicholson of Independence, Va., and Dan Nicholson of Welcome; a stepson, Dr. Andy Royals and his wife, Joyce, of Thomasville; a brother, James Paul Nicholson of Thomasville; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Christian Cathedral by the Rev. Numa Highfill and the Rev. Bob Ramsey. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other time at the residence.

Lexington - Ellis Gaston Rogers, 86, of Broad St. died at 12:10 a.m. May 11, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, after six weeks of declining health.

Mae Smith
High Point - Mrs. Mae Young Smith, 87, of 1907-X N. Centennial St. died May 10, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Nov. 10, 1912, in Suffolk County, N.Y., a daughter of Charles and Inez Downs Young. She was a resident of the Wesleyan Arms community for four years. On Aug. 21, 1936, she married Willard G. Smith, who survives of the residence. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Norman Thomas June 13, 1991.
Also surviving are six daughters, Lois Anne Thomas of Fillmore, N.Y., Evelyn M. Day of Midwest City, Okla., Nancy L. Troyer of Haiti, Aileen A. Brothers of Nevada, Mo., Eileen E. Siglin of Lawrenceville, Ga., and W. Jean Calder of Dacula, Ga.; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be in Houghton, N.Y. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.

Greensboro - Mrs. Mildred Bridges Kidd, 90, formerly of Archdale, died May 15, 2000, at Guilford Health Care Center.
She was born June 14, 1910, in Guilford County, a daughter of John and Mary Montgomery Bridges. She was a member of Trindale Baptist Church and was the owner of Paul Smith Studio. She married Samuel Jennings Kidd, who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a son, John A. Adams.
Surviving are three stepdaughters, Priscilla Flippin of Winston-Salem, Patricia Johnson of High Point and Linda Arsenault of Las Vegas; seven stepgrandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; a half sister, Johnsie Payne of Reidsville; a half brother, Robert Bridges of Reidsville; and a niece, Nancy Cook Michael of Thomasville.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Harold Williams. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.

Elva Talbert
Jamestown - Elva DeHaven Talbert, 88, died May 15, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 13, 1911, in Carroll County, Va., a daughter of Joseph P. and Florence Hundley DeHaven. She moved from Roanoke, Va., to High Point, in 1947. She had been a resident of Jamestown since 1958. She was of the Baptist faith. She Married Lewis C. Talbert, who preceded her in death in 1985. She also was preceded in death by a sister; two brothers; and two sons, James H. Talbert in 1994 and Kenneth R. Talbert in 1999.
Surviving are a daughter, Joan T. Perry of Jamestown; a son, Billy M. Talbert of Jamestown; a sister, Gladys Roy of Carroll County, Va.; a grandson, Kenneth R. Talbert II of Archdale; and a daughter-in-law, Peggy Lowe Talbert of Archdale.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Jerry Harper. Visitation will be Wednesday 7-8:30 p.m. at Sechrest Funeral Service, High Point.

Trinity - Mrs. Eula Dorsett Echerd, 79, of 1569 Tabernacle Church Road died May 18, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Oct. 7, 1920, in Randolph County, a daughter of Charles and Jane Miller Dorsett. He was a lifelong resident of Randolph County and was a homemaker. She married Jefferson Echerd, who preceded her in death Feb. 12, 1984.
Surviving are three daughters, Martha Jane Stillwell and Betty Ann Varner, both of Denton, and Linda Sue Clark of Trinity; eight sons, Jefferson Franklin Echerd Jr. of Arkansas, Arthur Elmore Echerd, Charles Echerd, Ronald Wayne Echerd Sr. and Thomas William Echerd, all of Trinity, Jack Alexander Echerd of Southmont, Robert Lewis Echerd of Denton and Richard Lee Echerd of Lexington; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church by Charles B. Walker. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.
