Melba Nichols
High Point - Mrs. Melba Gene Nichols, 74, of 411 Park St. died May 20, 2000 at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Dec. 12, 1925 in Winston-Salem, a daughter of Jefferson and Sadie Staton Morris, who both preceded her in death. She was employed with Western Electric Co. as a phone repairer.
Surviving are two sisters, Ms. Myrtle Morris and Mrs. Bennie M. Hardy; and a host of friends.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hargett-Gilmore Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be 10:30-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
John Quick
Roxboro - John Edward Quick, 59, formerly of High Point died May 19, 2000 moments after arrival at Parson Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health three years.
He was born in Bennettsville, S.C., a son of John T. and Minnie Thomas Quick, who preceded him in death. He was a resident of High Point for almost 20 years prior to moving to Roxboro. He was of the Baptist faith. He married the former Vera Graham, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are three sons, Kim Davis of High Point, Joshua Quick of Roxboro and Ronald Quick; three grandchildren, Kim Davis Jr., Jacorey Davis and Kinisha Davis; three sisters, Ms. Mary Quick, Mrs. Minnie Quick White and Mrs. Mary Jordan and her husband, Melvin, all of High Point; two brothers, Prentiss Quick of High Point and Leroy Quick of Bennettsville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. J.W. Flake. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church and other times at the residence of Mrs. Mary Jordan, 106 Lawndale Avenue.

Pauline Riggs
Thomasville - Mrs. Pauline Flippin Riggs, 80, formerly of Thomasville, died May 21, 2000 in Huntsville, Ala.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Lloyd Lambeth of Charlotte, formerly of Winston-Salem.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Free Pilgrim Church Cemetery, Thomasville, by Keith Flippin. Visitation will be 11:30-noon Thursday at Foster Funeral Home.

Martin Taylor
High Point - Martin Gershon Taylor, 61, of 1734 Ternberry Road died May 23, 2000 at his residence.
He was born April 4, 1939 in High Point, a son of Stanley R. and Gertrude Bernard Taylor. He was a lifelong resident of High Point. He graduated from High Point High School and attended North Carolina State University and Emory University. He was manager of Merchandise Mart and a member of B'nai Israel Synagogue. He was preceded in death by his mother on Aug. 11, 1999.
Surviving are three sons, Scott Taylor and Keith Taylor, both of Atlanta and Brian Taylor of Griffin, Ga.; his father, Stanley R. Taylor of High Point; a sister, Carolyn Taylor Friedman of High Point; and a brother, Ronald Taylor of Boulder, Colo.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at B'Nai Israel Synagogue by Rabbi Jerome Fox. Burial will be in the Hebrew Cemetery. Visitation will be at the residence of his father, 1515 Wickliff Terrace.

James Tyson Jr.
High Point - James Tyson Jr., 42, of 601 Shadybrook Road, died May 22, 2000 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where he was a patient for five days.
He was born in St. Paul, Minn., a son of James and Barbara Tyson, who both preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Winston-Salem State University, where he received a bachelor of science degree in physical education. He served 13 years in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of lieutenant. He was employed at Roadway Inc. as a clerk. He was a member of R.C. Radio Control Club and received many citations, ribbons and other special recognitions.
Surviving are his wife, Evangelist Vanessa McCarthur Tyson of the residence; two sons, Anthony Tyson and Jimmy Tyson, both of the residence; a brother, Michael Tyson and his wife, JoAnne, of Raleigh; two sisters, Mrs. Stephanie Saunders and her husband, James, and Mrs. Margie T. Fowler and her husband, all of Raleigh; three aunts, Mrs. Sharon Larkin, Mrs. Lourane Oliver and Mrs. Pete Smith; a maternal mother and father-in-law, Eugene and Flora McCarthur of Mt. Airy; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Fruit of the Spirit Holiness Church, Greensboro, by the Rev. Nancy Wilson. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2 p.m. Friday at the church and other times at the residence.

Hazel Wolfe
Jamestown - Mrs. Hazel Marie Wolfe, 88, of 204 Knollwood Drive, went home to be with the Lord, May 23, 2000 while at Evergreens Nursing Center.
She was born April 19, 1912 in Fort Branch, Ind., a daughter of Arch and Maude Linxwiler. She and her husband, Dr. E. Paul Wolfe, a chiropractor physician, lived in Indianapolis prior to settling in North Carolina in 1948. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988.
She was a member of Bales Memorial Wesleyan Church in Jamestown and a former member of First Church of God in High Point. She was known throughout the area for tireless ministry to friends and acquaintances in need. She also was known for her inspirational writings often published in church bulletins. Her works were published in devotional guides, including 'Our Daily Bread' and 'The Upper Room.'
Surviving are a two daughters, Mrs. Ken (Lynn) Staton of High Point and Mrs. Phyllis Ann Peterson of Valparaiso, Ind.; two sons, Gregory Paul Wolfe of Denver, Colo., and Robert Mark Wolfe of Jamestown; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren all of Indiana.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bales Memorial Wesleyan Church by the Rev. Harold Bumby, the Rev. Sam Hinton and the Rev. Wes Brown; the Rev. Bill Kiser will offer the eulogy. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point.

Doris Wrenn
Greensboro - Mrs. Doris 'Dee' F. Wrenn, 68, died May 23, 2000 at Moses Cone Hospital.
She was an active member of First Friends Meeting and was a choir member. She was a licensed practical nurse, formerly employed with Moses Cone Hospital. After her retirement, she was an active volunteer at Moses Cone Hospital.
Surviving are her husband, William H. Wrenn of the residence; a son, David Wrenn and his wife, Susan, of Greensboro; and three grandchildren, Christopher Wrenn, Michael Wrenn and Meghan Wrenn.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Friends Meeting. Burial will be in New Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel, W. Friendly Avenue.

High Point - Mrs. Elaine Cavarnous Hornady, 73, of the Presbyterian Home died May 24, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
She was born Nov. 3, 1926, in Ninety Six, S.C., a daughter of Pete and Margaret Griffin Cavarnous. She retired from Circle K. She was preceded in death by two sons, Peter Edwin Hornady and James L. Hornady; and a sister, Mrs. Dot West.
Surviving are a daughter, Ms. Jaime Hayes of Kernersville; a son, William 'Bill' L. Hornady and his wife, Virginia, of Stanley; a sister, Mrs. Becky Haygood of Clearwater, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Mrs. Sandra Fisk.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Gene Phillips. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point.
Everette Poole
Thomasville - Everette Worth Poole, 89, of 805 Cox Ave., died May 25, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
He was born Oct. 3, 1910, in Montgomery County, a son of Octavus Gentry Poole and Tinnie Sanders Poole, who both preceded him in death. He was owner of Variety Knitting Co. and was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a scout master for 10 years. He married Mable Crotts Poole, who preceded him in death April 30, 1963. He later married Dorothy Craver Dickens, who also preceded him in death Sept. 8, 1998.
Surviving are two sons, Marion Ronald Poole and his wife, Janice, of Raleigh and G. Lamarr Poole and his wife, Glenda, of Thomasville; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Janice D. Poole of Raleigh and Janet D. Carroll of Thomasville; four sisters, Mrs. J. Reid (Geraldine) Howard of Greensboro, Mrs. Inez P. Smith of Trinity, Mrs. Gertrude Tew of Siler City and Mrs. Ruth P. Koontz of Thomasville; a brother, Rhuell 'Pete' Poole of Roanoke, Va.; eight grandchildren, Anne P. Bartel of Denver, Amy K. Poole and Marie E. Poole, both of Raleigh, Steven D. Poole, Kimberly P. Robertson, Beverly P. Slaydon, Leslie P. Rabon and Sandy Cummings, all of Thomasville; seven great-grandchildren, Charles Everett Bartel and James Thomas Bartel of Denver, Brandy M. Poole, David F. Poole, Amber N. Poole, Kimberly H. Rabon and Taylor Cummings, all of Thomasville.

Pauline Bowman
Jamestown - Mrs. Pauline McGee Bowman, 84, 4151 Kivett Drive died May 26, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Dec. 13, 1915, in Stokes County, a daughter of Charles McGee and Annie Marshall. She was a homemaker and a member of Mitchell's Grove United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. On March 15, 1941, she married Isaac Gray Bowman, who preceded her in death Feb. 27, 1981. She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Nadine Bowman, Mildred Jackson and Elizabeth Briggs; four brothers, Kenneth McGee, Fred McGee, Marshall McGee and Ray McGee.
Surviving are three sons, Marshall Gray Bowman of the residence, Charles 'Roy' Bowman and his wife, Lynn, of High Point and Roland A. Bowman and his wife, Jill, of Jamestown; a sister, Mrs. Doris Mabe of Winston-Salem; a brother, Hal McGee of Germanton; and four grandsons, Charles 'Beau' Bowman II, Edward Bruce Bowman, Roland A. Bowman Jr. and William Isaac Bowman.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mitchell's Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jonathan Coppedge-Henley. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Charles Edwards
High Point - Charles S. Edwards, 67, of 125 Manor Drive died May 26, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 8, 1932, in High Point, a son of Ira Lee and Mary Jane Jones Edwards. He retired from Pepsi Cola after 37 years of service and was known as 'Pepsi Pete.' He attended Westside Chapel in Greensboro. He was a member of the High Point Jaycees and the American Legion Post 106. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, never met a stranger and had many special friends. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Chris Edwards.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Leonard Edwards of the residence; four sons, Kenny Edwards and his wife, Lori, of Greer, S.C., Mickey and Laura Edwards of Archdale, Marty Edwards and his friend, Nellie, of High Point, Timmy Lee Edwards and his wife, Lesa, of Greensboro; a daughter, Susan Carol Edwards of High Point; adopted daughter, Laura Rankin; two brothers, Robert Edwards and James Edwards, both of High Point; and nine grandchildren, Chad Edwards, Glory Edwards, Tanner Edwards, Kelley Edwards and Charlee Edwards, Lauren and McKenzie Morgan, Clark Oliphant and Kendall Rankin.
