Virginia Raper
High Point - Mrs. Virginia Monroe Raper, 82, a former resident of Sheraton Towers died May 26, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital where she had been a patient for three weeks. She had resided at Piedmont Christian Home since October 1999, prior to her hospitalization.
She was born in Winston-Salem, a daughter of Alexander and Ella Brown Monroe, who preceded her in death. She attended school in the Midway community, and upon coming to High Point to reside, was employed in the home of the late Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Murray. She then was employed by the Frank Dunn family until her retirement.
She was a member of Greater First United Baptist Church where she was a member of the Missionary Circle and the Senior Usher Board. Fraternally, she was a member of the Court of Calanthe #2025, Piedmont Temple Daughter Elks #229, Ladies Auxillary of the V.F.W. Post #5574. She was also a member of the Saturday Evening Woman's Club.
Her husband, Alexander Raper, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Donna; a brother, Joseph Monroe; and several sisters, among them, Annie Bell Monroe.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Peggy Raper Smith of Sheraton Towers and Ms. Patsy Raper of Greensboro; one granddaughter, Ms. Deborah Wilcott of Teaneck, N.J.; and other relatives and friends, among them, Tracy Allen, who seemed more as a daughter, and Thurman Campbell, who was very dear to her.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral chapel 10 a.m. Monday and other times at the residence of Peggy R. Smith, #103, Sheraton Towers. Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn Rickard
Lexington - Evelyn Virginia Jones Rickard, 73, died May 26, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Towler and husband, John, of Trinity and Levela Rickard Jackson and husband, Kit, of Leicester, England; two sons, Kenneth Rickard and wife, Donna, of Gibsonville and Ed Rickard of Churchland Community; two sisters, Barbara Watts and husband, Fred, of Greensboro and Helen Humphrey of Lexington; four brothers, Wilburn L. Jones and wife, Maheepa, Bobby R. Jones and wife, Ann, and Paul E. Jones and wife, Hazel, all of Lexington, and Buford W. Jones and wife, Louise, of High Point; eight grandchildren, Les Rickard, Adam Rickard, Robert Rickard, Matthew Rickard, Joshua Rickard, Amanda Towler, Ben Jackson and Louise Jackson; and four great-grandchildren
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at The Timberlake Chapel at Piedmont Funeral Home by Rev. Gary Kling. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Piedmont Funeral Home.

Currie Spivey
Lexington - Currie Byrd Spivey, 91, of Friends Home at Guilford, formerly of Lexington died May 26, 2000.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall. Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
Rosa Treadaway
Thomasville - Mrs. Rosa 'Shuggie' Lee Honeycutt Gilmore Treadway, 75, of 301-A James Ave. died May 26, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 31, 1924, in Anson County, daughter of the late Joel Honeycutt and Elizabeth Horne Honeycutt. She was a retired employee of Amazon Cotton Mill with 25 years of service. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Beverly Johnson. She was first married to Grady M. Gilmore, who preceded her in death, and then was married to Thomas Treadway, who also preceded her in death.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Ruth Thompson, Mrs. Sylvia Johnson, Mrs. Louise Hepler, Ms. Wanda Phillips, all of Thomasville, and Mrs. Gloria DeHart of Trinity; two sons, Grady L. Gilmore of Winston-Salem and Larry R. Gilmore of Louisiana; one sister, Mrs. Rowena Tarlton of Wadesboro; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel by Rev. James McAdams and Rev. Wendell Sparo. Interment will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel and other times at the home 301-A James Ave. and at the home of the daughter, Ms. Wanda Phillips, 181 Rebecca Dr.

Dorothy Wisner
Kalamazoo - Mrs. Dorothy King (Rankin) Biesecker, of 1400 N. Drake Rd. died May 20, 2000, at Friendship Village.
She was born Feb. 4, 1921, in Richmond, Va., the daughter of George and Yvette (King) Rankin. She was employed by the State of Michigan for 12 years as an instructor for the blind at the Michigan Blind Rehabilitation Center in Kalamazoo. She was a member of the Ladies Library Association.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Wade Biesecker in 1944 and by her second husband, Robert Hugh Wisner in 1995.
Surviving are one daughter, Sally Biesecker Seidel and husband, Philip A. of Grand Blanc, Mich.; three grandchildren, Amy Seidel, Tom (Stacy) Seidel and Andrew Seidel and fiancee, Wendy Williams (to be married on June 3); one sister, Eloise Taylor of High Point; one brother, George Rankin, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by a dear and lifelong friend Louise Reynolds.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. June 5 at the Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Rd. in Grand Blanc, Mich.

Bennie Bogan
Thomasville - Bennie Bogan, 81, of 110 Turner St. died May 23, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Cecil Hardee
Thomasville - Cecil Hardee of 507 Memorial Park Drive died May 23, 2000, at his residence.
He was born April 28, 1932, in Loris, S.C., a son of Pink Hardee and Flouda Duncan Hardee. He retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries after 27 years of service. He was a member of Memorial Park Wesleyan Church. On Sept. 15, 1957, he married Virginia Simmons, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Ms. Sharon Hardee of Thomasville and Mrs. Frank (Pamela) Struzinski of Osan, Korea; two sons, Jerry Hardee and his wife, Edwina, and Brian Hardee, all of Thomasville; 10 brothers and sisters, Lloyd Hardee, Carl Hardee, the Rev. Maxie Hardee, Doris Sawyer and Judy Lundy, all of Marion, S.C., Augustine Page, Cindy Childress, Sylvia Collins and Betty Hardee, all of Thomasville, and Mary Steven of Charlestown, S.C.; and three grandchildren, Allison Struzinski, Frank Struzinski III and MaKayla Leak.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Maxie Hardee, the Rev. Douglas Hardin and the Rev. G.K. Andrews. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Anna Hill
Thomasville - Mrs. Anna Lee Tutterow Hill, 94, of 121 Washboard Road, died May 24, 2000, at Beverly Health Care Center.
She was born Aug. 3, 1905, in Iredell County, a daughter of Baxter and Abigail Tutterow, who preceded her in death. She retired from Kiddie-Tot Hosiery of High Point. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Woodmen of the World in Thomasville and attended Hasty Baptist Church. She married Hosie C. Hill, who preceded her in death July 22, 1986. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Kay Hill Reid, Oct. 30, 1999.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth W. Hill Sr. of Thomasville; a brother, Quellon Tutterow of Sophia; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by her grandson, the Rev. Kenneth W. Hill Jr. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Kenneth W. Hill Jr., 125 Washboard Road.

Marvin Smith
Greensboro - Marvin Roscoe Smith, 87, formerly of Archdale, died May 24, 2000, at Masonic & Eastern Star Home after six years of declining health.
He was born April 17, 1913, in Stokes County, a son of Asa Monroe and Mary Jane Gibson Smith. He was a resident of Archdale the majority of his adult life. He retired from Van Holt Machine Shop and was a member of Green Street Baptist Church. He was a mason. On Oct. 7, 1949, he married the former Rachel Briles, who preceded him in death Nov. 7, 1979. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Pattie Jane Smith and Lorene Younts.
Surviving are a daughter, Rebecca Jackson and her husband, David, of 113 Tomahawk Trail, Clinton; two brothers, Lester Woodrow Smith of 10334 N. Main St., Archdale, and John Eugene Smith of 204 Ashland St., Archdale; three grandchildren, Jason Taylor, Jonathan Taylor and Jeremy Taylor, all of Charlotte; and two stepchildren, Melissa Jackson Mullinix and Julie Jackson Cranz.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Elliot B. Stewart and the Rev. Gene A. Phillips. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
