Ted Barnes
Kernersville - Ted Wayne Barnes, 53, of 2346 Swindon Lane died May 21, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 8, 1946, a son of Ted Roosevelt and Ruth Grant Barnes. He was lifelong resident of High Point and retired from Curt Manufacturing Co. He was a member of Jewel Baptist Church in High Point, where he was the royal ambassador director until he became ill. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Timothy S. Barnes.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Bobby (Crystal) Coleman; two granddaughters, Eriston Coleman and Halen Coleman; three sisters, Mrs. Glenn (Imogene) Parker of Canton, Mrs. Johnny (Eileen) Johnson of High Point and Mrs. Jimmy (Annette) Journey of Thomasville; two brothers, Mickey Barnes and Darrin Barnes, both of Thomasville; six nephews, Jason Whicker and Jacob Barnes, both of Kernersville, Bobby Parker of Canton, Tommy Johnson of Thomasville, Heath Garner of Little Rock, Ark., and Hayden Garner; five nieces, Paula Whicker and Susan Garner, both of Thomasville, Wendy Elam of High Point, Patti Parker of Canton and Danielle Barnes of Kernersville; and two great-nephews, Joshua Elam and Lee Whicker.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale by the Rev. Jimmy Hinson, the Rev. Billy Barnes and the Rev. Jessie Crooks. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at the residence.
Floyd Carter
High Point - Floyd Cecil Carter, 77, of 509 Abbie Avenue went home to be with the Lord May 21, 2000, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 4, 1922, in Randolph County, a son of Lee and Bessie McDowell Carter. He was a resident of High Point the majority of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II and retired 12 years ago from George T. Wood & Sons after 25 years of service. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, a former Sunday school teacher and a former deacon. He married in 1942 the former Frances Weakley, who survives of the residence. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.
Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Starlet) Jones of 6111 Pine Wood Drive, Archdale, Mrs. Jeanette Ledwell of 5874 Mose Drive, Archdale, Mrs. Barry (Elizabeth) Bennett of 5834 Edgar Road, Archdale, and Mrs. Johnny (Sherry) Stevens of 5033 Old Marlboro Road, Sophia; a son, David Floyd Carter of 153 Pin Oak Drive, Thomasville; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Wysocki of Brooklyn, Mrs. Ruby Ball of Thomasville and Mrs. Lewis (Eloise) Jones of Archdale; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pine Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Jack L. Tripp and the Rev. Richard D. Callahan. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

Emma Clinard
Reidsville - Mrs. Emma Hancock Clinard, 81, formerly of High Point, died May 21, 2000, at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville, after a lengthy illness.
She was a member of Mechanicsville Primitive Baptist Church and retired from Mayberry Ice Cream Shops. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Clinard.
Surviving are a daughter, Bobbie Gibbons and her husband, Tom, of Hot Springs, Ark.; a son, William C. Clinard Jr. and his wife, Sherry, of High Point; a sister, Louise Davenport of Kernersville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sandy Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Lexington - Mrs. Sarah Catherine Smith Briggs, 89, of 17 Cornelia Drive died May 21, 2000.

Denton - W. Harvey Crenshaw, 79, died May 20, 2000.

Carol Cruthis
Jamestown - Mrs. Carol Winfrey Cruthis, 61, of 4854 Harvey Road died May 20, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
She was born May 12, 1939, in High Point, a daughter of Lawrence and Georgia Milloway Carter, who both preceded her in death. She was a member of Trinity Heights Wesleyan Church and the Fidelity Sunday School Class. On Dec. 23, 1935, she was first married to Robert 'Bob' Lee Winfrey, who preceded her in death June 10, 1985. On Nov. 17, 1989, she married Lowell Thomas Cruthis, who survives of the residence. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Carter.
Also surviving are two sons, Danny Winfrey and his wife, Kathy, of Sophia and Darren Winfrey and his wife, Katrina, of Greensboro; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Karen Bowman of Mocksville, Mrs. Darlene Williard of Liberty and Mrs. Lisa Fields of Climax; two sisters, Mrs. Lois Taylor of High Point and Mrs. Marie Vest of Archdale; three brothers, Ralph and Donald Carter, both of High Point, and Ray Carter of Archdale; four grandchildren, Kourtney, Dylan, Kassady and Cody; eight stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Heights Wesleyan Church by the Rev. James Capps. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, E. Lexington Avenue, until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Cynthia Dunbar
Thomasville - Mrs. Cynthia Victoria Southard Dunbar, 90, of 322 Noahtown Road died May 22, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Henry King. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Frank Fairchild
Burlington - Frank Louis Fairchild of 3801 Asbury Court died May 20, 2000, at Raleigh Community Hospital.
He was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, a son of Edward Henry and Sally Vanoy Cleveland Fairchild. He and his family moved to Greenville, S.C., in his early childhood. He was a special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 35 years in Washington, D.C., Providence, R.I., Buffalo, Chicago, Los Angeles and Charlotte. His last residency was in High Point.
He attended St. Mary's Episcopal Church for many years. He was past president of the High Point Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He also was past president of the Retired Special Agents of the FBI of North Carolina, board member of Crimestoppers since its inception, former board member of the Salvation Army and board member of the Retired Peace Officers Association of Guilford County. He was active in prison ministry for many years. He was preceded in death by a son, Frank L. Fairchild Jr. in 1989.
Surviving are his wife, Alice Twist Fairchild of the residence; their four children, Thomas Cleveland Fairchild and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Greensboro, Jane F. Henderson and her husband, James P., of Raleigh, Mary F. Aiken and her husband, Bradley H., of Greenville, S.C., and an adopted son, Karim Hayez of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Christopher Cleveland Fairchild, Gregory and Margaret Aiken, Alice and Emily Henderson and Kimberly Hayez; a nephew, Fleming James III and his wife, Sue, of Wilbraham, Mass.; three sisters-in-law, Jean Stephenson of Buffalo, Dorothy Kelly of Burlington and Mary Striegel and her husband, Edward, of Jupiter, Fla.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, High Point, by the Rev. Glenn Busch and the Rev. Delia K. Higgins. Visitation will be at the church parlor after the memorial service.
