Minnie Langley
High Point - Mrs. Minnie Linville Langley, 87, of 301 Oakwood St. died June 7, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after several years of declining health.
She was born Nov. 9, 1912, in Dobson, a daughter of James Robert and Nicie Melinda Marion Linville. She lived in High Point since 1928 and attended Shady Grove Baptist Church. She farmed and later worked at Highland Cotton Mill. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and enjoyed growing flowers.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Hamilton and her husband, Jack, of Archdale and Mrs. Magdalene Fowler and her husband, Ed, of Thomasville; three sons, Bobby Dean Stanley and William Edell Stanley, both of High Point, and Gurney Lee Garrett of St. Cloud, Minn.; four brothers, Jim Linville of Pilot Mountain, Troy Linville of Richmond, Va., Johnny Linville and Spencer Linville, both of Burksville, Va.; 29 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Shady Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Bobby Blackburn and the Rev. Steve Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Magdalene and Ed Fowler, 816 Cox Ave., Thomasville.
Pallbearers will be James Alvin Hutchens, Jeff Hutchens, Jeffrey Hutchens, William Stanley, Wayne Fowler and Eric Stanley.

Lexington - Richard Scott Morgan, 34, of Old Silver Hill Road, died at 6:30 p.m. at Lexington Memorial Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Prospect United Methodist Church.

Lexington - Mrs. Lillian Etrulia Duffey Owen, 79, of Hedrick Mill Road died at 7:50 a.m. June 7, 2000, at her daughter's residence after an extended illness.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ollie Raye Hylton Penley, 81, of 529 Gatewood Ave. died June 7, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born March 26, 1919, in Earle Hurst, Va., a daughter of Hiram E. and Tryphena Hylton. She retired April 1, 1986, from Snyder Paper Co. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Morning Star Circle. Her husband, James A. Penley, preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Linda Raye Pardue and her husband, Jimmy, of High Point and Mrs. Debbie Lynn Jones and her husband, Van, of Archdale; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Carol Jones and her husband, Bill, of Norcross, Ga.; a son, David A. Penley and his wife, Beth, of Greensboro; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Mays and Mrs. Audrey Jamison, both of Covington, Va.; two brothers, Fred Hylton of Elyrie, Ohio, and Earl Hylton of Branch, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Don Lloyd and the Rev. Mark Curtis. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point.

High Point - Evangelist Rebecca Annette 'Becky' Dunlap Stinson, 41, of 824-D South Road died June 5, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, after declining health of one year.
She was born in High Point, a daughter of Paul Dunlap Sr. and Willie Mae Strickland Dunlap, who both preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Central High School, class of '78 and studied further at Tomlinson College, Cleveland, Tenn. Her home church was Church of God of Prophecy, Stanton Place, High Point. She was last employed at High Point Manor, where she was head cook. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Dunlap Jr., Sept. 8, 1999.
Surviving are her husband, A.J. Stinson of the residence; a daughter, Crystal Jean Stinson of the residence; two brothers, William Bernard Dunlap and Randy Lee Dunlap, both of High Point; four sisters, Evangelist Evelyn Ford, Mrs. Margaret Bennett and her husband, the Rev. Robert Bennett, Ms. Bernita Nwawueze and Mrs. Vanessa (Joshua) Lewis , all of High Point; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other in-laws and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God of Prophecy, Stanton Place, by Bishop Floyd Collins, Pastor Larry Ray and Evangelist Lena Craven. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 8-9 p.m. Friday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel and other times at the residence.

Ruth Cureton
High Point - Mrs. Ruth Massingill Cureton, 89, of 914 E. Dayton Ave. died June 8, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Aug. 3, 1910, in Dandridge, Tenn. She taught Looper School several years for the state of North Carolina and retired from Amos Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. On Sept. 10, 1966, she married Everett Cureton, who survives of the residence. She was preceded in death by two sons, Orne Osborne and Robert Thurman Cornelison.
Surviving are six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel, E. Lexington Avenue, by the Rev. John Allard and the Rev. Ray Hamilton. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home. Visitation will be 2:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Carl Doby
Spencer - Carl 'Roy' L. Doby, 64, died June 9, 2000, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health.
He was born April 5, 1936, in Stanly County, a son of Claude Albert and Carrie Austin Doby, who both preceded him in death. He attended Salisbury city schools and graduated from Salisbury Business College with a business administration degree. He worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salisbury and was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a member of North Main Baptist Church. He also was a member of the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion, the Hudson Miller Tatum VFW Post 3006 and a past officer at Spencer Moose Lodge 543. He was preceded in death by his five brothers, Lewis Doby, Gerald Doby, Archie Doby, Richard Doby and Pride Doby.
Surviving are a son, Austin Doby of Salisbury; two daughters, Teresa Ward and her husband, David, of Fort Mill, S.C., and Cheryl VanderPoel and her husband, Jack, of Salisbury; three grandchildren, Scott VanderPoel and Eric Mulkey, both of Salisbury and Dallas Ward of Fort Mill; a niece, Stacy Poole of High Point; and a nephew, Lance Poole of High Point; three sisters, Helen Poole and her husband, Buddy, of High Point, Betty Plummer and her husband, C.J., of Churchland and Judy Bolich and her husband, Frank, of Pennsylvania.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Summersett Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Tom Roberts. Burial will be in Rowan Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Summersett Funeral Home.

Sibyl Pearce
High Point - Mrs. Sibyl Comer Pearce, 98, formerly of Raleigh, died June 7, 2000, at Presbyterian Home of High Point.
She was born May 19, 1902, in Rock Hill, S.C. She attended Winthrop College prior to marrying W. Davis Pearce, who preceded her in death. She was a newspaper reporter in Rock Hill, Charlotte and Raleigh. After moving to Raleigh in the 1930s, she joined the West Raleigh Presbyterian Church, where she served in so many capacities, that one long-time member commented, 'She was West Raleigh Church.'
She served on the board of Peace College. She paved the way for Presbyterian women all over the country by being one of the first women elected to traditional male positions, being both a deacon and later an elder.
In 1979, she moved to High Point Presbyterian Home, where she continued in a leadership role at both the home and First Presbyterian Church of High Point.
She loved children. It was a great regret of her and her husband that they never had any children of their own, but they lavished much love on the children of friends and numerous loving nieces and nephews who survive her.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday in Montlawn Memorial Park.

H. McAllister
High Point - Herbert Duane McAllister, 93, of Westwood Nursing Center died June 7, 2000, at the nursing center, after declining health of several years.
He was born Feb. 26, 1907, in Anderson, S.C., a son of Julius Edward and Mary Jane Martin McAllister. He was employed at Carolina Springs Corp. for 30 years, retiring in 1972. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Grace Nelson and her husband, Clabon, of 140-D Old Mill Road.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Sechrest Chapel, E. Lexington Avenue by the Rev. Pat Ray. Burial will be in Deep River Friends Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of his sister.
