Cheryl Beecher
Stuart, Fla. - Mrs. Cheryl Jean Prince Beecher, 42, of 2061 S.W. Perry Terrace died Oct. 11, 1999.
Memorial service will be noon Saturday at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Lexington, N.C. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Lexington. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the mausoleum chapel.

Clyde Hamby
Thomasville - Clyde James Hamby, 84, of 248 E. Thomas Drive, formerly of Hudson, died Oct. 13, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Dec. 6, 1914, in Caldwell County, a son of Granville Asbury and Nellia Ann Story Hamby. He retired from Hammary Furniture and was a well-known trophy and plaque engraver. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He was married to Ruby Faye Younce Hamby, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are three sons, the Rev. James “Jim” Hamby and Dennis Hamby, both of Hudson, and Gary Hamby of Lenoir; a daughter, Mrs. Wade (Genene) Harrold of Thomasville; two brothers, Arnold Hamby of Lenoir and Atwell Hamby of Hudson; two sisters, Easter Miller and Mary Greene, both of Lenoir; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; three brothers, Artie Hamby, Lawrence Hamby and Romie Hamby; and three sisters, Mamie Suddreth, Irene Storie and Ruby King.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Fellowship Baptist Church by Dr. Thad R. Dowdle and the Rev. Tommy Harrold. Burial will be in Belleview Cemetery. Visitation will follow the memorial service at the church and other times at the residence of the Rev. Jim Hamby, 2113 Olde Farm Road, Hudson.

Julia Jarrell
Asheboro - Ms. Julia Ann McNeil Jarrell, 74, of 156 E. Academy St. died Oct. 13, 1999, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
She was a native of Seagrove and was preceded in death by a son, Harold Lee Updike and a daughter, Linda Kay Sanders.
Surviving are four sons, Jerry McNeil of Aiken, S.C., Ray Fagg of Asheboro, Bobby Sanders of Winston-Salem and Richard Jarrell of High Point; two daughters, Patricia Oxendine of Thomasville and Wanda Stanley of High Point; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Larry Stines and the Rev. Bill Barnes. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her son, Ray Fagg, 124 Forest Brook Circle.

Jesse Knight
High Point - Jesse Lee Knight, 71, of 2424 E. Kivett Drive died at 4:45 a.m. Oct. 14, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital after declining health of four years.
He was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Cumberland County, a son of John Robert and Katie McDonald Knight. He had been a resident of High Point since 1951 and was employed with Industrial Container Corp. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church and the Co/Op Sunday School Class. On Dec. 22, 1951, he married Elizabeth Lewis, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two sons, Jerry Wayne Knight of Winston-Salem and Barry Lee Knight of 2428 E. Kivett Drive; four sisters, Mrs. James (Lois) Lewis of 111 Lawndale Ave., Mrs. Bob (Lucy) French, Mrs. Brenda McNeill and Mrs. Marie Brown, all of Sanford; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point by the Rev. Carroll M. Upton and the Rev. Christine Oscar. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

William Smith
Jamestown - Dr. William Thomas Smith, 96, of 103 Butternut Road, passed away Oct. 13, 1999, in Greensboro, after a long illness.
A son of Dr. William T. Smith Sr. and Mrs. Emma Underwood Smith, he was born in Clinton and reared in Wilmington. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia and earned his graduate degrees at Ohio State University. He was a professor of chemistry at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville for 45 years. He also was a consultant to Oak Ridge National Laboratory and an instructor at the Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies.
He was a 71-year member of the American Chemical Society and served as chairman of the East Tennessee Section. He was a member of Sigma Xi, Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Chi Sigma, and he also served on the Manhattan Project. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Avery Reagan Smith, a native of Reagan Station, Tenn. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Junius C. Smith, and two sisters, Miss Octavia Smith and Mrs. Frances Shelhart, all of Wilmington.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Sidney and Elizabeth “Ebie” Padgett of the home; four grandchildren, Carl Padgett and his wife, Brenda, of Duluth, Ga., Elizabeth Reep and her husband, Bryan, of Durham, William Padgett and his wife, Diane, of Durham and Julia Jones and her husband, Martin, of Jamestown, seven great-granddaughters, Kelley and Sara Padgett of Duluth, Avery Reep, Emily Reep, Allison Reep and Reagan and Annie Padgett, all of Durham; two brothers, Dr. James H. Smith and Jack W. Smith, both of Wilmington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service for the family will be held Saturday at Jamestown United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the residence.

Thomasville - David Alan “Vulture” Wilson, 45, died Oct. 11, 1999, at Raleigh Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 10, 1954, in Anaheim, Calif., a son of Robert Gray and Kathryn Balteria Wilson. He was a tattoo artist with Tattoos R Us in Aberdeen.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ricky (Ramona) Rich of High Point; his fiancee, Miss Darla Burleson of the home; and two brothers, Robert Halterman of Colorado and Robert Poole of Thomasville.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Holly Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Bruno Wolf. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until the service hour. Visitation will follow the service.

High Point - Wendy Lynn Carter, 34, of 5800 Checker Road died Oct. 15, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born April 16, 1965, in High Point, a daughter of Charles Nathan and Betty Hughes Carter. She had been a resident of High Point all her life and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are her mother of the residence; her father of 1448 Jackson Lake Road; one sister, Frances Darlene Carter of the residence; and one brother, Charles Randall Carter of 719 Liberty Drive, Thomasville.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Robert Hyssong
High Point - Robert Frederick Hyssong, 73, of 2605 Allen Jay Road died Oct. 15, 1999, at his residence.
He was born July 30, 1926, in Frederick, Md., a son of William Le Van and Clara Beck Hyssong. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a retired employee of Electric Supply Co. He was of the Methodist faith. On Feb. 5, 1949, he married the former Mary Shapee, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are a daughter, Nannette C. Hyssong of Long Beach, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott Alan and Kathy Hyssong of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Joanne Bennett of Murrell’s Inlet, S.C.; two brothers, John Hyssong of Frederick and William Hyssong of Baltimore, Md.; and a grandson, Chase Hyssong. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Hyssong in 1992 and a daughter, Diane Hyssong in 1997.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sechrest Chapel in Archdale by the Rev. C.W. Moss. Burial will be private. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 120 Trindale Road, Archdale.
