Clara Baggess
High Point - Mrs. Clara Ward Self Baggess, 83, formerly of E. Green Drive, died June 29, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born April 29, 1917, in High Point, a daughter of John and Gertrude Fields Ward. She was a lifelong resident of the High Point vicinity and she retired from Mirror Products. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and attended Trulite Baptist Church. She married Romie Self, who preceded her in death in 1947. She later married Troy Baggess, who also preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a son, Alvis Marshall Self and a daughter, Texie Ward Angel.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Norma Jean Proctor and her husband, Clayton, of Trinity, and Mrs. Ann Emmer and her husband, Joe, of Pleasant Garden; a son, Dan Self of Croton, Ohio; three brothers, Monroe Ward and Frank Ward, both of High Point, and Harrison Ward of Lenoir; two sisters, Alice Hood of Pleasant Garden and Bessie Criddenton of Marrietta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Paul Sparks and the Rev. Bobby Loving. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Eldora Biesecker
Lexington - Mrs. Eldora Crotts Biesecker, 81, of Lexington Health Care, formerly of N.C. 8 South died at 3:34 p.m. June 28, 2000, at the health care facility.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

T. Clement Sr.
High Point - Thomas Landers Clement Sr., 35, of 906 Blain St. died June 26, 2000.
He was born Jan. 19, 1965, in High Point, a son of Thomas Fred Clement and Nancy Stinson. He was employed with Henredon Furniture Industries.
Surviving are his wife, Charissa W. Clement of Trinity; his father of High Point; his mother of Shallotte; a son, Thomas Landers Clement Jr. of Trinity; a daughter, Tiffany Leanne Clement of Trinity; two sisters, Loucinda Debra Watson of Shallotte and Melanie Jan Reeves of High Point; two brothers, Scott Wayne Clement of Atlanta, and Mathew Hall of Sophia; and his grandmother, Lucille Reynolds Stinson of Shallotte.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Wayne Richardson. Visitation will follow the service.

Madie Grubb
Thomasville - Mrs. Madie Elzie Grubb, 94, of Britthaven of Davidson, formerly of 1516 Johnson St., High Point, died June 29, 2000, at the nursing home.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8 tonight at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home.

Dorothy Hill
Asheboro - Ms. Dorothy Mae Garner Stafford Hill, 79, died June 28, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Central Wesleyan Church. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Ridge Funeral Home.

Mabel Johnson
High Point - Mrs. Mabel Maxine Johnson, 81, of 4402 Oak Hollow Drive died June 28, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 5, 1918 in Dingy, W.Va., a daughter of Andy and Vena Frame. She moved to High Point four and one-half years ago from St. Albans, W.Va., where she lived for 44 years. She was a member of Oakview Baptist Church and Tom Corns Sunday School Class, which was a very important part of her life since moving to High Point. On Feb. 26, 1938, she married Maxell C. Johnson, her loving husband, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Judy See and her husband, Dick, of High Point, and Mrs. Joy Hiddie and her husband, Bert, of Carlisle, Pa.; three grandchildren, Todd Hiddie of Marlton, N.J.; Jodie See Ramsey and her husband, Carl, of Puyallup, Wash., and Kris See and his wife, Jackie, of High Point; two great granddaughters, Erin Ramsey and Jordan Ramsey of Puyallup; two sisters, Maysel Hall of Wilmington and Audra Carter of Fort Walton, Fla.; and a brother, Roland Frame and his wife, Marie, of Franklin.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sechrest Chapel by the Rev. Steve Smith. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service, 1301 E. Lexington Ave., High Point.
Memorials may be directed to Oak View Baptist Church Building Fund, 810 Oakview Road, High Point, N.C. 27265.

James Landrum
High Point - James Edward Landrum, 53, of 6411 Staffordshire Drive died June 27, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Dec. 16, 1946, in Danville, Va., a son of Hugh and Doris Talley Landrum. He was a graduate of Trinity High School. He joined the U.S. Marines in 1966 and served in Vietnam. He was a supervisor foreman for Piedmont Natural Gas Co. and a member of High Point Seventh Day Adventist Church. On Aug. 28, 1965, he married the former Barbara Mauldin, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are four daughters, Ms. Donna Landrum of Salisbury, Ms. Jamie Anderson of Stony Point, Mrs. Amber Gardner of Louisiana and Mrs. Ashley Manning of Burlington; his mother of Thomasville; two sisters, Mrs. Diana Lambert of Randleman and Mrs. Dawn Hooper of Thomasville; a brother, Holland Landrum of Thomasville; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at High Point Seventh Day Adventist Church by the Rev. Gerald L. Mobley. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, is in charge of arrangements.

James Lanier
Denton - James Frank Lanier, 97, of Sunbridge Health and Rehabilitation of Asheboro, formerly of Canaan Church Road, died June 28, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was a born Sept. 10, 1902, in Davidson County, a son of Elkanah Dewitt and Emma Louetta Stout Lanier. He was formerly employed with Bisher Hosiery Mill and was a farmer. He was a member of Lineberry United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a son and three daughters.
Surviving are his wife, Elma Russell Lanier, of Sunbridge Health and Rehabilitation, Asheboro; a son, David M. Lanier Sr. of Denton; five daughters, Lola Mae Scarboro, Marguerite Nance, Elwina Shaw, Betty Jo Yates and Ann See, all of Denton; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, D. Lawton Lanier of High Point and R.L. Lanier of Ramseur; and two sisters, Lois Smith of Denton and Bonnie Gordon of Wayne, Maine.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lineberry United Methodist Church by the Rev. Peter McGuire, the Rev. Vance Edwards and the Rev. Ron Chaney. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Briggs Funeral Home.

Daphne Phelps
Lexington - Mrs. Daphne Fritts Phelps, 81, of Windsor Avenue died June 28, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.

Annie Small
High Point - Mrs. Annie R. Small, 79, of 213 Seashire Court died June 26, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Surviving are two sisters, Rosa Lee Hughes and Ethel P. Fields, both of High Point; and two brothers, John D. Johnson of High Point and James Edward Johnson of Bronx, N.Y.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Carthage. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service.
Horton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley York
Greensboro - Ms. Shirley Faye Chrisco York, 52, died June 28, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro.
