Lexington - Alonzo Kennedy, 84, of 1020 New Bowers Road, died July 16, 2000, at SunBridge Nursing Home after several months of declining health.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial United Church of Christ.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.
Roy McCollum
Colfax - Roy Howard McCollum Sr., 88, of 9520 U.S. 421, died unexpectedly July 16, 2000, at his home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1911, in Guilford County, a son of Arthur and Cassie Fraizer McCollum, who preceded him in death. He was a member of Colfax Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II. He was a retiree of Moses Cone Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Maxine McCollum of the home; a daughter, Pamela McCollum of Colfax; a son, Howard McCollum Jr. and his wife, Kitty, of Colfax; a sister, Esther Campbell of Greensboro; two brothers, Welford McCollum and Cordell McCollum, both of Colfax; and three grandchildren, Kevin McCollum, Amanda Blackmon and Amber Davis.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Colfax Baptist Church by the Rev. Beauford Smith and Ward Laramore. Burial will be in Shady Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church for family and friends to pay their respects after 2 p.m. today and will be there to remain until the funeral hour Tuesday. The family will receive friends at the church from 7 to 9 tonight. Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville is assisting the McCollum family.
Paul Morgan
High Point - The Rev. Paul L. Morgan, 77, died July 15, 2000, at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory and from the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, S.C. He received an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Lenoir Rhyne College in 1968. He served as pastor at the following Lutheran churches: St. Peter's in Salisbury, Good Shepherd in Goldsboro, Philadelphia in Granite Falls, Center Grove in Kannapolis, First Lutheran in Greensboro, Incarnation Lutheran in Columbia, S.C., and Christ Lutheran in Roanoke, Va.
He is survived by his wife, Bess Morgan; one son, Paul Z. Morgan; two daughters, Paula Morgan and Shelia Stahlberger and her husband, Mike Stahlberger; and three grandchildren, James Morgan, and Kevin and Megan Stahlberger.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church on Friendly Avenue in Greensboro. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.

Charles Sams
Hickory - Charles Edgar Sams Sr., 83, of 22nd Street, died July 16, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Asheville, the son of Alfred Edgar and Lessie Fox Sams, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School in Asheville and College for Salvation Army Officers in Atlanta. He served as a Salvation Army officer from 1938 until 1982, when he and his wife retired to Hickory. He served as the commanding officer in Mt. Airy, Statesville, Salisbury, Rocky Mount, Goldsboro, High Point, Spartanburg, S.C., and Fort Smith, Ark. He served as city commander in Winston-Salem for five years. He was a member of the Rotary Club until the time of his retirement. He married Evelyn Peeler Sams on Oct. 3, 1944, in Salisbury.
Surviving are his wife, of the home; two daughters, Carolyn Sams of Laguna Hills, Calif., and Susan Sams of Denver; one son, Charles E. (Eddie) Sams Jr. of High Point; two sisters, Geraldine Shelton of Asheville and Helen Liquori of Miami Beach, Fla.; three grandsons, Jeremy Sams, Jackson Sams and Adam Sams, all of High Point; and two granddaughters, Lisa Yount of Denver and Lindsay Sams of High Point.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Salvation Army Church. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park.
Visitation is 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. The pallbearers will be from the Salvation Army Hickory Corps., 750 3rd Avenue Place, S.E. Hickory, N.C. 28602.

James Trotter
Asheboro - James Stewart Trotter, 25, died July 14, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel.

Bickett Wright
Lexington - Bickett Wright, 83, of 854 Cid Road, died July 16, 2000, at Community General Hospital in Thomasville.
He was born in Davidson County on June 26, 1917, a son of Arthur Bickett and Ida Lee Lambeth Bickett, and was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. He was a former co-owner of Cid Hosiery and was a member of Cid United Methodist Church. On March 30, 1940, he was married to Miss Mae Herman who survives of the home.
Also surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Brenda Cline of Thomasville; a son, Bicky W. Wright and wife, Lavonne, of Denton; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Cook of Asheboro and Miss Margie Wright of Lexington; a brother, Bruce Wright of Lexington; three grandchildren, Mrs. Steve (Sherri) Sarkady, Mrs. Bo (Kristi) Chitwood and Miss Deborah Wright; one great-grandson, Hayden Morris; and one step-great-grandson, Elliott Chitwood.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cid United Methodist Church by the Rev. Alvin Pope and the Rev. Roger Weisner. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until placed in the church at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will be 3-4 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service and other times at the residence.

Thomas Dishman
High Point - Thomas Wayne Dishman, 54, of 4105 Johnson St. died July 14, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 20, 1945, in Crowell, Texas, a son of Kip and Jean Drew Dishman. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He was a resident of High Point for the past six years.
Surviving are a daughter, Tammy Scovill of Burbank, Calif.; two sons, Robert James Dishman and Matthew Scott Dishman, both of Lakewood, Calif.; his mother of High Point; three brothers, David Dishman of High Point, Kenneth Dishman of Mesa, Ariz., and Don Dishman of California; and two grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point. Visitation will be after the service at the funeral home.

Linwood - Jesse 'Jack' Hale, 72, of Old Salisbury Road died July 16, 2000, at 2:36 p.m. at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem following declining health of several weeks.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rollings Heights Faith Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.
Nell Hedrick
Lexington - Mrs. Nell Pope Hedrick, 67, of Queens Road died July 17, 2000, at 3:20 a.m. at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after an illness of five months.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hedrick's Grove United Church of Christ. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.

Clarence Williams
High Point - Clarence Allie Williams, 87, of Ellwood Drive died July 16, 2000, at Evergreens Nursing Center Inc. in High Point, where he was a patient 14 months.
He was born in Guilford County, a son of Gurney and Grace Williams, who both preceded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of Guilford County. He was employed with the city of High Point maintenance department more than 30 years and a member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church. He also was preceded in death by his sister, Nellis; a brother Ralto; and a stepson, Robert Lee McDonald.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margie McDonald Williams; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Emmanuel Baptist Church by the Rev. Lawrence Curtis. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel and other times at the residence, 114-B Price St.
