Thomasville - Ronald Lee Simmerson, 74, of 1028 Blair St., formerly of Churchland Community, died July 24, 2000.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Churchland Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Fayetteville - John Rankin Summers Jr., 80, of 2227 Winterlochen Road died July 25, 2000, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church, a Mason, Shriner, and an executive with Riddle Companies.
Surviving are his wife, Ms. Daisy S. Summers of the residence; a daughter, Pattie S. Koonce of Fayetteville; two sisters, Marybell S. Stutts and Betty S. Neely, both of High Point; and a grandson, Michael Koonce of Fayetteville.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Leighton McKeithen. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Ross Younts
High Point - Ross 'Curly' Edward Younts, 84, of 1133 Countryside Drive died July 25, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Randolph County, a son of James Ivey and Emma Lambeth Younts. He was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Trinity. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Thomas Furniture Co. On Dec. 25, 1941, he married the former Ethel Broadway, who preceded him in death Dec. 31, 1987. He was preceded in death by his mother on Nov. 10.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. T.L. (Barbara) Smith of 1003 Shamrock Road, High Point; and two grandsons, Craig Smith and Ricky Smith.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point. Burial will be in Deep River Friends Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Simon Brower
Archdale - Simon Clayton 'Ben' Brower, 84, of 215 Wedgewood Drive died July 25, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born June 8, 1916, in Randolph County, a son of Alfred Clayton and Mabel Thomas Brower. He retired from Dutch Laundry Service and was a member of Albertson Road Baptist Church. On Nov. 22, 1940, he married the former Maude Veletia Luther, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a son, David L. Brower of Roanoke, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Madeline Walker of Asheboro; a grandson, Scott Brower and his fiancee', Angela, both of Sophia; and a great-grandson, Noah Brower.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Bruce Vaughn. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

Lexington - Jackson 'Jack' Farabee Craver, 68, of Waitman Road died 1 p.m. July 26, 2000, at his residence.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Wesley Lovett
High Point - Wesley 'Pop' Lovett, 85, of 1901 S. Elm St. died July 26, 2000, at High Point Care Center after five months of illness.
He was born Sept. 5, 1914, in Guilford County, a son of Harper and Victoria Proctor Lovett. He was a lifelong resident of High Point. He was employed at Highland Yarn Mills for more than 40 years and later retired from Guilford Fiber Inc. after 10 years of service. He married the former Jewell Smith, who preceded him in death in 1977. He later married the former Gracie Roberts, who also preceded him in death in 1998.
Surviving are a daughter, Peggy Wells and her husband, Henry, of 150 Greenhaven Drive, Archdale; three stepdaughters, Bonnie Snider, Diane Hedrick and Brenda Hulin; a stepson, Walter Stevens; two brothers, Ruben Lovett of Carolina Beach and Will Lovett of Florence, S.C.; a stepsister, Betty Miller of High Point; two grandchildren, Randy Wells and Sandy Bialek; three great-grandchildren, Matt Wells, Alex Bialek and Jackson Bialek; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Jack Luther. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Henry and Peggy Wells.

Lexington - John Carlton 'Cotton' Shoaf, 67, of Old US 64 West died at 5 p.m. July 25, 2000, at his residence after declining health of three years.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Tyro United Methodist Church. Visitation will be after the service Saturday at Tyro United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
Linda Wilson
Thomasville - Ms. Linda Jane Wilson, 50, of 1935 Old Greensboro Road died July 26, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
She was born Nov. 20, 1949, in Macon County, a daughter of Clint Herman and Janie Passmore Wilson. She lived the majority of her life in this area. She was employed with Tar Heel Paving with more than 15 years of service. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are her mother of the residence; a sister, Brenda Wilson of the residence; a brother, Clint Wilson of Thomasville; three nieces, Tracy Wilson of Charlotte, Angela Wilson Shaw of Thomasville and Janie Lynn Wilson of Thomasville; two great-nieces, Kimberly Justice of Charlotte and Alexus Shaw of Thomasville; and her precious jewel, P.J, her loving dog.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Hillis Burton. Visitation will be 7-9 Friday and other times at the residence.

S. Daniels
Bennettsville, S.C. - S. Boyd Daniels, 87, died July 26, 2000, at Oakmont Nursing Home in Greenville.
He was born Sept. 24, 1912, in Dillon County, a son of J. Rushin Annie Ashby Daniels. He retired as a retail merchant. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sallie C. Daniels; a granddaughter, Sharon Daniels; and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are two children, Sam and his wife, Martha Daniels, of Easley, Imogene and her husband, Larry Townsend, of Trinity, N.C.; four grandchildren, Shelley Townsend and Ty Townsend, both of Archdale, N.C., Susan and her husband, Peter Petracco, of Houston, and Laura Daniels of Charleston; and two sisters, Gertrude Raynor and Louise Williamson, both of Latta.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, Bennettsville. Visitation will be Sunday after the service at the church fellowship hall.

Oscar Hall
High Point - Oscar Tanner Hall, 95, of 2344-A Gordon Road died July 26, 2000, at the Evergreens Nursing Center Inc. after one and a half years of declining health.
He was born Dec. 28, 1904, in High Point, a son, the 11th of 12 children, of Dennis Headley Hall and Nancy Lee Maynard, who both preceded him in death. On Oct. 5, 1929, he married Neta Cassie Gordon, who preceded him in death. He worked with Briggs Manufacturing Co. for many years and later was owner of Hawks Upholstery Co. in High Point. He later made ladies handbags and delivered them throughout North and South Carolina. He also built and managed rental real estate, was an avid gardener and loved to read. He was honored March 1994, by the Employment Security Commission as one of High Point's oldest workers. He was a longtime member of High Point Friends Meeting.
Surviving are a son, William H. Hall and his wife, Marianne, of Blowing Rock; three grandchildren, Mrs. Holly Pritchard, and hzer husband, Charley, of Luling, Texas, Mrs. Laurie McDowell, and her husband, John, of Morehead City, and William David Hall and his wife, Kathy, of Hillsboro, Ore.; a great-grandson, Master William Ian McDowell of Morehead City; a half sister, Mrs. Julia Russell and her husband, Wray, of Hartsville, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cumby Funeral Chapel, High Point, by the Rev. Victor Murchison and the Rev. Linda Selleck. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
