Mrs. Leola Hardy Henderson, 92, of Britthaven of Davidson, formerly of Hardeman Street, died July 31, 2000, at the nursing center.
She was born Aug. 21, 1907, in Gretna, Va., a daughter of Henry C. and Shrella Doss Hardy, who both preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of Southside Baptist Church. She married the Rev. Samuel Garland Snyder, who preceded her in death. She later married Joel William Henderson, who also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, John H. Snyder and his wife, Charlotte, of Thomasville and William Paul Snyder and his wife, Connie, of Charlotte; a sister, Mrs. Donnie (Kathleen) Michaels of Orlando, Fla.; two grandsons, Mark Steven Snyder and his wife, Lois, and Michael John Snyder and his wife Lisa, all of Thomasville; three great-grandsons, Isaac Snyder, Justin Snyder and Shane Snyder.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. Ronald Blakley. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until the hour of service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of a son, John H. Snyder, 409 Hillcrest Circle.

Mrs. Leona Outlaw Hilliard, 86, of 330 Player Drive died at 9 p.m. July 31, 2000, at her residence following several years of declining health.
She was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Bishopville, S.C., a daughter of John A. and Estelle Atkinson Outlaw. She was a resident of High Point since 1942. She was a former employee of Brayton International and Kaylyn Furniture Inc. She was a member of First Wesleyan Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. On Sept. 19, 1931, she married Lonnie Adams Hilliard, who preceded her in death Jan. 11, 1994. She also was preceded in death by two children, Lonnie Adams Hilliard Jr. and Ethel Hilliard; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Mathias and Mrs. Lena Hunter; and a brother, Johnny Outlaw.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Eddie (Barbara Ann) Whitson of 3621 Westfield St.; a son, Robert Lee Hilliard and his wife, Rogena, of 3526 Imperial Drive; two sisters, Mrs. Leland (Lola) Alsbrook of Manning, S.C., and Mrs. Oren (Katherine) Morton of Jamestown; three brothers, Edward and Moise Outlaw, both of Santee, S.C., and Joseph Outlaw of Badin; a special friend, Mrs. Edith Bodenhamer; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Carroll M. Upton and the Rev. O.W. Willis. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Mark Hunter

Mark Luther Hunter, 40, died July 30, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born March 6, 1960, in Wilmington, Del., a son of Don T. and Ruth Hicks Hunter. He spent the majority of his life in North Carolina. He graduated from Andrews High School in High Point and was a member of the Archdale Jaycees. He attended Victory Baptist Church and was with the N.C. Department of Transportation for several years. He was also associated with Royal Majestic Coach Limousine Service.
Surviving are his wife, Renee Boles Hunter of the residence; three daughters, Krystal, Mellisa and Meghan Hunter; his mother and father of High Point; a number of nieces and nephews; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Barbara Boles of Winston-Salem.
Funeral will be 12:30 p.m. today at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by the Rev. Mike Duffield. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Richard Gilmore James, 63, of Hunt Road died at 12:34 p.m. July 31, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital from injuries received in an auto accident.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Forest Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.
Charles Lovern

Charles Henry Lovern, 77, of High Point Care Center, formerly of 306 Phillips Avenue, died July 30, 2000, at the nursing facility.
He was born March 5, 1923, in New River, Va., a son of Jesse Lee and Cora Lee Underwood Lovern. He had been employed by Custom Processing Inc. and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was of the Baptist faith. On Sept. 4, 1941, he married the former Rebecca Morris, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by a son, Frankie Lee Lovern.
Also surviving are six daughters, Barbara Goins and her husband, Wayne, of Thomasville, Brenda Lockhart and her husband, C.W., of Trinity, Linda Deckard and Pamela Parrish, both of Kernersville, Lois Jeffery of Archdale and Jewel Bowman of High Point; a son, Billy Ray Lovern of Thomasville; a sister, Elizabeth Keister of Radford, Va.; a brother, Edward Lovern of Barren Springs, Va.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Elsie Heimberger of Biloxi, Miss.; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Cumby Funeral Service, High Point. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
Darrell Pierce
High Point
Darrell Pierce, 74, of 1101 Gatehouse Road died July 31, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Marchz 1, 1926, in Guilford County, a son of Franklin Cosie and Sarah Ellen Bean Pierce. He was a lifelong resident of High Point and retired as general manger of Silver Craft Furniture Co. After his retirement, he worked with Preview Furniture Co. He was former president of the Industrial Management Club, having served as a member of the board of the Sheltered Workshop and the Mayor's Committee for Employment of the Handicapped. He previously worked with the Red Cross blood program and served as head of the industrial division of the United Way. At one time, he was a board member of the industrial relations division of the Southern Furniture Manufactures Association (AFMA). He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a life member and former president of the High Point Host Lions Club. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church and the Family Fellowship Sunday School Class. He served as chairman of the administrative board, trustees, worship and a host of other committees and agencies. He served as lay leader and as a delegate to annual conferences. On Sept. 17, 1948, he married the former Margaret Lawson, who survives and is a resident of Wesleyan Arms Inc.
Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Phil Pierce and his wife, Kathy, of 4009 Braddock Road and Mark Pierce and his wife, Lesa, of 319 Otteray Ave.; a brother, Charles Pierce of Raleigh; and three grandchildren, Brett Foust, Kristy Pierce and Franklin Pierce.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Donnell Lloyd and the Rev. Richard Crowder. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service, High Point.

Mrs. Carole Ann Hubbard Adams, 55, of 122 Cornell St. died Aug. 2, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 23, 1944, in Delaware, a daughter of William Leon and Ruth Hubbard. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are her common-law-husband, Billy Joe Fritts, of the residence; her mother, Mrs. Ruth Hayworth of High Point; three daughters, Karen D. Adams of the residence, Tammy Sechrest and Jerrie Small, both of Thomasville; a son, Larry C. Adams; 13 grandchildren; three brothers; and a sister.

Mrs. India Bateman Robbins, 88, of Friends Homes at Guilford, formerly of Jamestown, died Aug. 1, 2000, at Wesley Long Hospital.
She was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church and an honorary member of the administrative board and on the committee of church history. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, (Circle One) and the Good Fellowship Sunday School Class
She was a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College (now East Carolina University), she also did graduate work at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She retired as a teacher from the High Point City Schools after 28 years of service. She was a life member of the National Education Association and the North Carolina Association of Educators, as well as the Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Teachers Society. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Raymond Robbins.
Surviving are her daughter, Jean Ray Robbins Hoak and her husband, Dale C. Hoak of Gladstone, Mo.; two grandchildren, Anne Hoak of Belton, Mo., and Stephen Hoak and his wife, Jennifer, of Ponca City, Okla.; three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Jacob and Adam Hoak; a brother, Rodney S. Bateman of Columbia; and two sisters, Frances B. Triplett of Tarboro and Laura B. Lawrence of Winston-Salem.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Jamestown United Methodist Church by the Rev. C.M. Worthy and the Rev. Howard Wilkinson. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery, 5900 High Point Road. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point.

Gilbert Black

Gilbert R. Black, 86, of 709 Unity St. died Aug. 3, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
He was born July 24, 1914, a son of William and Emma Lambeth Black. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the field artillery. He resided in California for several years, where he worked in construction. He returned to the High Point area 11 years ago and was a member of Unity United Methodist Church. He married Jane Stevenson Black, who preceded him in death Dec. 27, 2000.
Surviving are a brother, Carson Black and his wife, Viola, of High Point; two sisters, Dorothy Bowling and Helen Watkins, both of Greensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. De Hillyer. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home.
