Roscoe Frank Hogan, 88, of 400 Vision Drive, formerly of Hogan Farm Road, Star, died Aug. 14, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Edith Aluman Hogan.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Haithcock and her husband, Sam, of Lenoir and Ms. Karen Hogan of Sophia; a sister, Mrs. Mae Terry of High Point; and two grandchildren, Geoff Haithcock and Rebekah Haithcock.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beulah Baptist Church, Bennett, by the Rev. Curtis Barber and the Rev. Eddie Bumpers. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, and other times at the Bethany House beside Beulah Baptist Church.

David Jones Sr.

David R. Jones Sr. died Aug. 11, 2000, at Carolina Commons Nursing Home in Greensboro.
He was a native of Christiansburg, Va., and a graduate of Augusta Military Academy, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He was active in athletics at both schools and received many awards for his participation in three sports. He was employed at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, audit and statistical department, until 1942, when he was accepted by the U.S. Navy Officer's Training Center at Princeton University. After completion of NOTC, he was assigned to the amphibious fleet aboard the USS Henrico, AP45, as deck officer. He participated in four invasions, two in the European Theater at Normandy and Southern France, two in the Pacific Theater at Okinawa and the Phillipines. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received during the Okinawa invasion.
In 1946, he joined Burlington Industries Inc. in a management position. and retired in 1973. He later became associated with Cieby-Giegy. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in High Point, and a former member of the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary Ann Childress Jones.
Surviving are his daughter, Susan J. McNeely of Mooresville; his son, David R. Jones Jr. of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Mac McNeely of Mooresville, Patti McNeely Beamish and her husband, Mark of Raleigh, Emily Jones of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Allen Jones of High Point; several nieces; and nephews.
Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, Va., by the Rev. R. Scott Woodmansee.

Gary Lee Luck, 51 of 91 Lawton Road died Aug. 13, 2000, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
He was born Sept. 15, 1948, in Davidson County, N.C., a son of Walter Lee and Inez Friddle Luck. He was formerly employed at Arnold Craven Clothiers in High Point, N.C., and later with Nicker's of Hilton Head.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Woodhead of the residence; a son, Tory Luck of New Hope, Pa.; and his parents of Archdale, N.C.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sechrest Archdale Chapel by the Rev. Hal Warlick. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jewel Banks Pharis, 63, of 211 Warner St. died Aug. 14, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born Nov. 2, 1936, in Albemarle, a daughter of Roy Douglas Ward and Nellie Banks. She retired from Brayton International and was a member of Hillside Park Baptist Church. She married John C. Pharis Sr., who preceded her in death March 13, 2000.
Surviving are two sons, John C. Pharis Jr. and his wife, Kerry, of Archdale and Larry Jones and his wife, Wanda, of Thomasville; three daughters, Mrs. Earl (Tammy) McKinney Jr. of Denton, Mrs. Butch (Carolyn) Adams of Thomasville and Mrs. Terry (Shirley) Setliff of Lexington; four sisters, Betty Jo Morton of Conroe, Texas, Ruth Burleson, Clara Miller and Vergie Miller, all of Thomasville; eight grandchildren, Terri Lynn Baxley, T.J. Setliff, Amber and Shawn McKinney, Lisa Coble, Carla Gregory, Cindy Smith, and Misty Bivens; and four great-grandchildren, Dylan Coble, Kaitlyn Bivens, Rebekah Smith, and Sarah Baxley.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Hillside Park Baptist Church by the Rev. Terry Boles and the Rev. Elton Wilborne. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until the hour of service. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at 211 Warner St.

Reggie Lee Cecil, 49, of 304 Salem St. died Aug. 15, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born June 7, 1951, in Guilford County, a son of William Clarence and Dorothy Lee Sink Cecil. He served for nine years with the National Guard of High Point. He was employed with Haworth Seating Co. of High Point and was also associated with RTP Furniture Distributors of High Point. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. On March 12, 1971, he married Tamsie Benfield, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Miss Jenny Cecil of Farmer; two sons, Michael Cecil and his wife, Amy, of Graham and Zachary Cecil and his wife, Misty, of the residence; his parents of High Point; two sisters, Miss Kim Cecil and Miss Tamara Cecil, both of High Point; two brothers, Randy Cecil of High Point and Ricky Cecil of Thomasville; and six grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion United Church of Christ by the Rev. Joe D. Coltrane. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until placed in the church Thursday 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
