Mrs. Ruth Hartman Stewart, 85, died Sept. 3, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
She was born Sept. 18, 1914, in Forsyth County, a daughter of George Emanuel and Nellie Tesh Hartman. She was a member of Friedland Moravian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William 'Bill' Wesley Stewart, and seven brothers and sisters, Elgin Hartman, Gilbert Hartman, Oliver Hartman, Cleo Fishel, Mabel Hall, Alice Smith, Helen Hartman.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Hilda Vestal, and her husband, John, of Clemmons, Mrs. Lynn Yoder, and her husband, Allen, of Winston-Salem; a son, George Wesley Stewart, and his wife, Kay, of High Point; four grandchildren, Alina Hall, Eric Stewart, Melissa Cox, Stewart Cox; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a brother, G. Frank Hartman; a sister, Grace Tesh Evans; and a sister-in-law, Bertha S. Hiatt.
Funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Friedland Moravian Church by Dr. Steve Craver. Burial will be in the church graveyard. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel.

Fulton Henry Turlington, 71, of 311 Pickett Place, died Sept. 2, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born July 9, 1929, in Hope Mills, a son to Clarence Henry and Almira Gore Turlington. He was a retired employee of Alma Desk. He had lived in the High Point area for 33 years after moving from Fayetteville. He was a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church in High Point. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening and flowers. He married Orthel Rider Turlington in 1978, who survives of the home.
Also surviving eight daughters, Sandra Gail Vail of Pottstown, Pa., Susan Lynn Stevens and Karen Hope Sandeen of Gaston, S.C., Ruby Henrietta Hunt of High Point, Ruby Deal and Fredie Ferguson, both of Kernersville, Dottie Bradsher of Haw River, Lillie Huffman of Jamestown, S.C.; two sisters, Vernell Gore of Fayetteville, Janet Brown of Carolina Beach; two brothers, Duffey Turlington and Preston Turlington, both of Hope Mills; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 8 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service Eastchester Drive Chapel by the Rev. John Allard and the Rev. Ray Hamilton. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. The body will be taken to Hamilton-Porter Funeral Home in Hope Mills, where visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service in Hope Mills will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cumberland Cemetery in Hope Mills.

Harry Benedict Moeckly, 85, of 1526 Ann Arbor Court, died Sept. 2, 2000, at Wesleyan Arms Nursing Home. He was born Aug. 16, 1915, in Patterson, N.J., a son of Henry and Maglena Beislen Moeckly. He was a design engineer with Stull Engraving and had lived in the High Point area for the past 31 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Parker Moeckly, in 1992. Surviving are three children, Billie Jones and Jon Moeckly, both of High Point, and Susan Weiss of Kernersville; two grandchildren, Robert Benjamin Leck and Devon Beebe; and a sister, Meta Rhoades of Lincoln, Calif. A private service will be held at a later date in New Jersey. The family will receive friends tonight at the home of Billie Jones, 1517 Ann Arbor Ave.

Mrs. Mabel Robbins Bodenhamer, 90, of 1530 Bunker Hill-Sandy Ridge Road, formerly of 1817 Union Cross Road, died Sept. 5, 2000, at Bradford Village East.
She was born July 25, 1910, in Forsyth County, a daughter of Charlie Oscar and Viola Lee Williard Robbins, who both preceded her in death. She retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, where she worked in the cafeteria. She was a member of Union Cross Moravian Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Imogene B. Idol of Kernersville; a son, Harold Glenn Bodenhamer of Trinity; a sister, Hattie Weavil of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Glenn Robbins and Oscar Robbins of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Union Cross Moravian Church by the Rev. James L. Doss. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home.

A. David Cook, 83, of 4435 Fairview Road, formerly of Millersville, died Sept. 2, 2000, at Pleasantview Retirement Community, Manheim, after a long illness.

Mrs. Dorothy Louise Russell Hawks, 81, of 501 Reid St. died Sept. 5, 2000, at her residence after six months of declining health.
She was born July 12, 1919, in Thomasville, a daughter of Rupert and Bertha Gurley Russell, who both preceded her in death. She retired from Ragan Knitting Co. of Thomasville. She was a volunteer with Community General Hospital and was of the Holiness faith. In 1935, she married Bennett Hawks, who survives of the residence. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Varner; a brother, Darwin Russell; and a grandson, Doug Cranford.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Annette Thorpe and her husband, Randy, of Greensboro, Mrs. Barbara Hemrick and her husband, Harold, of Asheboro and Mrs. Judy Cranford and her husband, Ken, of Christianburg, Va.; two sons, Donald Hawks and his wife, Brenda, of Thomasville and Ronald Hawks and his wife, Rhonda, of Kernersville; four sisters, Ms. Carol Russell, Mrs. Joe (Mozelle) Craddock, Mrs. Harding (Evelyn) Everhart and Mrs. Lawrence (Vivian) Burton, all of Thomasville; a brother, Oliver Russell of Thomasville; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Mark Sink. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Robert Gerald McLelland, 71, died Sept. 1, 2000.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served as a firefighter 15 years.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley McLelland of the residence; four daughters, Teresa M. Lance of Kernersville, Frankie Cumbie of High Point, Sherri A. Matheny of Tennessee and Lois J. Sofka of Florida; a son, Thomas E. McLelland of California; 10 grandchildren; and two sisters, Eunice Kitchen and Helen Newell, both of Mississippi.
