L. Daryl McGuire, 61, of 301 Fairview Road died Sept. 7, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1939, in High Point, a son of Grady Lee and Mabel Conrad McGuire. He was a resident of Thomasville since 1968. He was a graduate of High Point High School and High Point College. He attended Stetson University School of Law in St. Petersburg, Fla., and graduated from Wake Forest University Law School. He began his law practice in Thomasville in 1968 in partnership with E.W. Hooper. In 1974, he established a private practice which remained until his son, Mark, joined him in 1993 in the law firm of McGuire & McGuire.
He was a member of the N.C. Bar Association, the N.C. State Bar, the American Bar Association and a member of the N.C. Academy of Trial Lawyers. He also was a member of the American Judicature Society. He was a former member of the Thomasville Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a former member and former vice chairman of the Thomasville City School Board. He also was a volunteer with Communities in Schools.
He was a former member of the Thomasville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, a member of Davidson County Alcoholic Care, and a member of the Davidson County Community College Board of Trustees. He was a member and former president of the Thomasville Bulldog Boosters, a member of the Wake Forest University Deacon Club and the High Point University Panther Club. On June 23, 1962, he married Miss Marie Hill, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael Daryl McGuire and his wife, Terinda, of Seven Lakes and Mark Lee McGuire of Thomasville; his mother of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Wayne (Becky) Kearns of Thomasville; a grandson, Michael Taylor McGuire of Seven Lakes; a niece, Mrs. Andy (Jackie) Ferguson of Thomasville; and a nephew, David Roger Johnston of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kyles Y. Wallace, the Rev. Eddie White and Father Tom Fitzpatrick. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until the hour of service. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of his sister, 315 W. Guilford St.

Mrs. Patsy Miller Thomason, 91, of 216 Shuler Circle died Sept. 7, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
She was born May 19, 1909, in Douglasville, Ga., a daughter of Oscar and Elma Wynn Miller. She was a resident of Thomasville since 1953. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Church Circle. She was a homemaker and a member of the Thomasville Woman's Club and Colonial Country Club. She was an avid bridge player. She married John G. 'Stumpy' Thomason, who preceded her in death April 30, 1989.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Doug (Patsy) Knotts of Prospect Hill; a son, Johnny Thomason and his wife, Barbara, of Thomasville; five grandchildren, Mrs. Chris (Beth) Fowler of Thomasville, Mrs. Tripp (Susan) Bradshaw of Raleigh, John Thomason Jr. of Raleigh, John Knotts of Catawba, S.C., and Katy Knotts of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; two stepgrandchildren, Phil Lloyd of Raleigh and Ryan Lloyd of Chapel Hill; five great-grandchildren, T.W. Bradshaw, Ellen Bradshaw and Susie Bradshaw, all of Raleigh, Krystal Knotts and Brooke Knotts of Rock Hill, S.C.; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Morgan Lloyd and Bennett Lloyd, both of Boone.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kyles Y. Wallace, the Rev. Peggy Finch and the Rev. Wilbur Jarrett. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until placed in the church one hour prior to the hour of service. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Carl Causey

Carl Franklin Causey, 81, formerly of 2824 E. Market St., died Sept. 8, 2000, at Wesleyan Arms Nursing Center in High Point. He was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Guilford County, the son of Claude William Causey and Lillie Belle Roberts Causey. He was a member of Bessemer Baptist Church and retired from Wysong & Miles Co. as a machinist. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy's 8th Beach Battalion. He was a former Scout master, and was a nature and animal lover. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Causey Coble and Edna Causey Medlin. Surviving are two sisters, Gladys Causey Biddy of High Point, and Ruth Causey Smith of Pleasant Garden; six nieces; seven nephews; 14 great-nieces; 12 great-nephews; 17 great-great-nieces; 12 great-great-nephews; one great-great-great-niece; and one great-great-great-nephew. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Street Chapel. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home and wishes to thank the staff of Wesleyan Arms in High Point.

James Edward Christy Sr., 66, of 328 Calvin Road, died Sept. 8, 2000. He was born Oct. 24, 1933, in Cabarrus County, the son of John Edward Christy and Lottie Mcintyre Christy. He had been a resident of this area the greater part of his life. He was self-employed. Surviving are a son, James Edward Christy Jr., and his wife, Cindy, of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Louise Barbee, of Concord; three grandchildren, Jessica Christy, Destiny Christy and James Christy III. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel with the Rev. Danny Graham officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at J.C. Homer C. Foster, 81, of 12771 Trinity Road, died Sept. 8, 2000, at SunBridge of the Triad in High Point where he had been a patient for three weeks. He had been in declining health for a year. He was born in Guilford County, a son of Carl Alfred and Mamie Mock Foster, who both preceded him in death. He had resided in the Trinity community for 46 years and was an active member of St. Mary's United Methodist Church. He was a member of the United Methodist Men, a former member of the Senior Choir, trustee board, a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and honorary member of the usher board. He was a former member of Knights of Pythian Lodge. He was a retired employee of Marlow Van Loan as a truck driver and, later, was employed as a parking attendant for McLarity Furniture. He served an enlistment in the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Hill Foster, of the home; one son, Ricky Foster, and his wife, Betty, of High Point; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Jean Matthews and her husband, David, of Trinity; four grandsons, Aubrey Matthews, Rodney Matthews, David Matthews Jr. and Brian Foster; five great-grandchildren, Briana, Tashana, JoVonne, Kahli and Angela; one brother, Raymond Foster, and his wife, Lucille; and one sister, Mrs. Martha F. Gray, all of Trinity; one aunt, Mrs. Claudia White of Philadelphia. There are nieces, nephews, cousins, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Odessa Hayes of Trinity, and a dear friend, E.J., who seemed more as a son. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lee Bynum. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel and other times at the residence. Ms. Linda Luann Hall, 54, of High Point Care Center, died there Sept. 9, 2000. She was born July 24, 1946, in Janesville, Wis., to Ervin T. and Dorothy Tess Hall. She was a graduate of Greenhills High School in Cincinnati and attended Southern Ohio Business College. Before moving to High Point, she had been employed by GMAC in Anchorage, Alaska. She attended Bible Study at First United Methodist Church and as a hobby enjoyed writing poetry. She had served as a volunteer receptionist at the Mental Health Association of High Point. She is survived by a daughter, Anna Hall Letchworth of Henderson; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin T. Hall of High Point; a sister, Pam L. Woodruff of Norwalk, Ohio; a brother, Steven L. Hall, of Des Moines, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point by the Rev. Don Lloyd. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Miss Ina Malissa Hancock, 92, of 1891 Old Mountain Road, died Sept. 9, 2000, at Community General Hospital. She was born July 27, 1908, in Randolph County, a daughter of Andrew Milton 'Bud' and Mollie Garren Hancock. She had been a resident of Randolph and Davidson counties all her life, and was the oldest member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Owey, Milton, Joe and Tom Hancock. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Ocia H. Hunt, of 1891 Old Mountain Road; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church on Fuller Mill Road with the Rev. Karl Kelly. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at Family Funeral Care, 18 Randolph St., Thomasville, until placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and other times at the home.
