Mrs. Betty Farrington Hyatt, 74, of 883 N.C. 62 West died Sept. 13, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Guilford County, a daughter of John Alexander and Cora McCandless Farrington. She was a lifelong resident of Guilford County and a homemaker. She married Coley Hyatt who preceded her in death Nov. 15, 1978.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ronnie (Bunny) Wright of Archdale; three sons, Joe Hyatt and Teddy Hyatt, both of Greensboro and Tony Hyatt and his wife, Lynda, of Sophia; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; four brothers, Wayne Farrington and John Farrington, both of High Point, Tommy Farrington of Greensboro and Clarence Farrington of Florida; and two sisters, Cleo Johnson of High Point and Dorothy Lee Highfill of Level Cross.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Burnett's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rufus Beavers. Visitation will be 7 tonight at the church.

Kenneth Nichols
Randleman
Kenneth Frank 'South Paw' Nichols, 56, of 4239 Brown Loop died Sept. 12, 2000, at his residence.
He was born March 20, 1944, in Cedar Square, a son of Panco and Mary Cox Nichols, who both preceded him in death. He was a lifelong member of Cedar Square Friends Meeting and retired as owner/operator of Frank's Truck. On Sept. 21, 1962, he was married to the former Brenda Yow, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Austin Nichols in December 1998.
Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth M. Nichols of Randleman and Austin Panco Nichols of Ramsuer; a daughter, Sharon N. Allred of Sophia; seven grandchildren; and three sisters, Marjorie Farlow, Emma Jean Zook and Jackie Canoy, all of Cedar Square.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cedar Square Friends Meeting by the Rev. Ben Hurley. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, and other times at the residence.
His nephews will serve as pallbearers for the funeral service.

Odessa Summers
High Point
Mrs. Odessa Harper Summers, 85, of SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation For The Triad, formerly of 1516 Wendell Ave., died Sept. 11, 2000, at the nursing facility where she was a patient for seven years.
She was born in King Creek, S.C., a daughter of William Harper Sr. and Mary Gill Harper, who both preceded her in death. She was a resident of High Point 80 years. She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. She was employed at Carolina Spring Factory 30 years and eight months prior to retirement. On April 5, 1989, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo Summers. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Luella Gill Coleman and Hattie Mae Harper Chapman; and a brother, William Green Edward Harper Jr.
Surviving are a stepson, James Summers and his wife, Ruth, of Springdale, Md.; two grandchildren, Daniel Summers of Springdale, and Martha L. Summers of Bowie, Md.; a brother, James Wesley Harper Sr. of High Point; three sisters, Mrs. Pauline G. Curry and Ms. Elizabeth Harper, both of High Point and Mrs. Alberta H. Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of nieces, among them, Ms. Laura Chapman, who was her caretaker; nephews, cousins, in-laws, among them, Mrs. Bertha Harper and Walter Chapman, both of High Point, many other relatives and friends, among them, Mrs. Lelia Brooks, who was her neighbor and devoted friend.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Vernon Baptist Church by the Rev. F.O. Bass Jr. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church and other times at the residence of Ms. Elizabeth Harper, 1315-A Dartmouth Ave.

Miss Tina Renee Wallace, 14, died Sept. 12, 2000.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Community Baptist Church. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Briggs Funeral Home.

Herbert Adams

Herbert Thomas Adams, 76, of Kinwood Lane died at 12:08 a.m. Sept. 14, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after declining health of one year.
Funeral will be noon Saturday at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel.

Ken Cecil

Ken Cecil of Spring Oak Court died Sept. 14, 2000, at his residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home.

Mitchell Davis Jr.
High Point
Mitchell Logan Davis Jr., 73, died Sept. 13, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born June 21, 1927, in Danville, Va., a son of Mitchell L. and Mabel Bowes Davis. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II. He retired from Standard Trucking Co. where he was a truck driver. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a very loving husband and an avid fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lee Clifton Davis of the residence; two brothers, Harold I. Davis of Raleigh and Leonard F. Davis of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Peggy Ann Worley and Xenia Joyce Davis, both of Greensboro; nieces and nephews; and his special dog, Bambi.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by Bishop John Pacific and home teacher, James Watkins.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262 or to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27407.

Rev. James Gates
High Point
The Rev. James Robert Gates, 77, of 322 Brentwood St. died Sept. 12, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Troy, a son of Earl and Viola Martin Gates. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was the pastor of Sandhill United Church of Christ, Aberdeen, serving 32. He also was pastor of Myrtle Grove United Church of Christ for 28 years. He retired from the city of High Point Public Library. He attended North Carolina A&T State University. He was a member of the Civitan Club, Boy Scout leader, member of United Church of Christ Fellowship and Veterans of Foreign Wars, voted twice as branch manager High Point Public Library, Washington Street Branch. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Sherill Gates, and a son, Carlos Aurelius Gates.
Surviving are a son, James Earl Gates and his wife, Sheila, of High Point; six daughters, Mrs. Rose Haile, Ms. Dorothy Gates, Ms. Viola Gates and Mrs. Veronica Jenkins, all of High Point, Mrs. Beverly Alexander Merchan and her husband, David, of Coeburn, Va., and Mrs. Mary Jones and her husband, Dennis, of Washington, D.C.; a brother John Earl Gates of Buffalo, N.Y.; a sister, Peggy Terry of Jamestown; 18 grandchildren, Eugene Gates, La Wana Gates, Quintessa Haile, James Earl Gates, Tonya (Gates) Moore, Xanthe Gates, Quintin Gates, Mar Quan Gates, Dashawn Gates, Tralyce Gates, Rodney Alexander, Tahika White, Joseph White, Lawrence White, Shamika Gates, La Tisha Gates, Traleise Alexander and Stephanie Jenkins; 14 great-grandchildren; cousins, Margaret Tucker, Christine Lindsay, Sylvia Collins and Alonzetta Terry, all of Buffalo, N.Y.; and a host of other cousins and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. W.R. Lowery. Burial will be in Oak Wood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1:30-2 p.m. Saturday at the church and other times at the residence.

Joyce Isenhour
High Point
Mrs. Joyce Lee Tisdale Isenhour, 59, of 610 Colonial Drive died at 6:20 a.m. Sept. 14, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after a short illness.
She was born July 27, 1941, in Sumter, S.C., a daughter of Arthur and Winifred Gibson Tisdale. She was a resident of High Point since 1962 and was director of health services at High Point University from 1972 until her death. She cared for thousands of students through her 28 years of service as a registered nurse and head of student health services. An on campus memorial service will be scheduled for early October.
She was a graduate of the school of nursing of High Point Regional Hospital and a member of Northside Baptist Church in Raleigh. She loved crafts, painting, gardening, children and her neighborhood. On July 28, 1972, she married Billy Darrell Isenhour who survives of the residence. She was preceded in death by a sister, Linda D. Coleman.
Also surviving are two stepchildren; her mother, Mrs. Winifred Gibson Tisdale Haskins of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Beverly) Sivak of Charlotte; and five nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point, by the Rev. David M. Emery. Entombment will be in Floral Garden Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Pallbearers will be Joe Oots, Rob Mancari, Rick Blake, Larry Deglandon, Frank Foster and Johnny McCarn.
Memorials may be directed to High Point University, 833 Montlieu Ave., High Point, N.C. 27262.

Sarah Kaukola
Lumberton
Mrs. Sarah Thompson Kaukola, 53, of 1817 Lamb Road died Sept. 13, 2000, at her residence.
She was born in Robeson County, a daughter of Frank and Sallie Phillips Thompson, who both preceded her in death. She was a deputy clerk of court for Robeson County for 20 years. She was a member of Antioch Baptist since Dec. 25, 1955, and a pianist and organist for the church 37 years. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Lester and Franklin Thompson.
Surviving are her husband, Ervin Kaukola of the residence; two sons, John Kaukola of Lumberton and Marty Kaukola of Thomasville; a daughter, Aimee Phillips of Lumberton; a brother, James M. Thompson of Durham; three sisters, Sadie Davis, Joyce Rice and Violet Crawford, all of Lumberton; and two grandchildren, Trey and Caleb Kaukola.
Funeral will be 7:30 tonight at Antioch Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Meadows and the Rev. Charles Jackson. Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Floyd Memory Gardens. Visitation will be tonight at Antioch Baptist Church Fellowship Hall after the service.

Travis Elwood Tysinger, 73, of 887 Fritts Road died Sept. 14,2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Meadowview Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Piedmont Funeral Home.

J. Wimbish

James 'Jim' Robert Wimbish, master sergeant USAF retired, 70, formerly of Arcadia, died Sept. 14, 2000, at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel, Winston-Salem. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

C. Betenbaugh
High Point
Charner Michael Betenbaugh, 93, of 229 Hedgecock Road died Sept. 15, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Aug. 14, 1907, in Union County, S.C., a son of John Calhoun and Aurelia Greer Betenbaugh. On April 4, 1988, he married Gladys Nunn Bowman who survives of the residence. He was a member of Hillside Park Baptist Church and a retired printer with Hall Printing Co. and Acme Sample Co.
Also surviving are a son, Gordon Betenbaugh and his wife, Barbara, of Lynchburg, Va.; two stepsons, David Edward Bowman and his wife, Sandy, of Asheville and Robert McKinley Bowman and his wife, JoAnn, of High Point; four grandchildren, Melaine and Jennifer Betenbaugh, Shelley and Robert Becker; four stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hillside Park Baptist Church, Holly Grove Road, Thomasville, by the Rev. John Wheeles and the Rev. Terry Boles. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be a Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
