Harold Dean Houser Sr., 64, died Sept. 15, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
He was born June 26, 1936, in Lincoln County, the son of Noah Cletus and Etta Detter Houser. He was retired from Monumental Life Insurance after 31 years as an agent and sales manager.
He was a member of the National Guard for 19 years, and a member of American Legion Post 48, Moose Lodge of Hickory and Startown Lions Club. He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Miranda Lacey Houser; and four brothers, Daughty, Ray, Ralph and Earl Houser.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Smith Houser, of the home.
Also surviving are four sons, Harold (Dean) Houser and wife, Mary Lou, of Thomasville, David Lee Houser and wife, Linda, of Longview, Douglas Earl Houser and wife, Debbie, of Hildebran and Dwight Arnold Houser of Hickory; one daughter, Mary H. Webb and husband, Phillip, of Atlanta; one brother, Gordon Houser of Vale; three sisters, Rita Bivins of Cat Square, Katherine Hefner of Hickory and Jaunita Undorfer of Miami; four grandsons, Adam Houser, Andy Houser, Dustin Houser and Dillon Houser; two granddaughters, Dawn Houser and Kristin Houser; and one foster granddaughter, Michelle.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Faith United Church of Christ by the Rev. Paul Cook and the Rev. Ronald Vaughan. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. Mrs. Zeffieree Crawford Hunter, 96, of 1841 Blain St. died Sept. 15, 2000, at her residence. She had been in declining health for one year.
She was born in Macon, Ga., a daughter of Joseph C. and Ada Wynn Crawford, and had resided in High Point most of her life. She attended the public schools, graduating from High Point Normal and Industrial School. For a while, she was employed as a looper at Adams-Millis Hosiery. She also was a pianist, and made draperies and some clothing.
As a child and young adult, she attended Pearson Memorial AME Church. More recently, she moved her membership to Solid Rock Baptist Church, where she was very active and supportive of church programs.
Her husband, Frank William Hunter, Sr., died Aug. 26, 1988. A daughter, Jacqueline H. Motley, died Aug. 8, 1989. Two brothers, Joe Crawford and John Wesley Crawford, and one sister, Odessa C. Haizlip, all preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Frank W. Hunter, Jr. and his wife, Eglena, of Richmond, Va., Robert L. Hunter and his wife, Bertha, of College Park, Md., and James W. Hunter and his wife, Edwina, of Laurel, Md.; one daughter, Wanda Hunter Allen and her husband, Horace L., of Wilmington; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Thelma Peterson of High Point; and nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Solid Rock Baptist Church by Rev. Alphonso Martin. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Monday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel and other times at the residence.

Mrs. Angela Marsh Peterson, 98, formerly of 1718-B N. Centennial St. died Sept. 15, 2000, at the Evergreens Nursing Facility.
She was born Sept. 9, 1902, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of Harvey and Katherine Roberts Marsh. She had been a resident of High Point for several years and was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church. She attended Ohio Wesleyan College and was a graduate of Teachers College in Fairmont, W.Va. She was founder of the Angela Peterson Doll and Miniature Museum in High Point. She had taught school from the first grade to college graduates. She organized the first senior citizens recreational center in the United States and served as the military recreational director in Korea with the 7th Division. She traveled to Turkey for 10 years and had visited 42 other countries. She was married to Fred S. Peterson, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Eric Marsh Peterson of Lillian, Ala.; four granddaughters, Karen Roccasecca, Erica Huyler, Betsey Morrett and Kirsten Milliken; and one grandson, Marsh Peterson.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Nelson Silver.
Memorials may be made to the Angela Peterson Doll and Miniature Doll Museum, 101 W. Green Drive, High Point, N.C.

Mrs. Rhoda Naomi Stevison Phillips, 88, of 101 Kaylan Lane died Sept. 16, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Aug. 16, 1912, in Bradley County, Tenn., a daughter of Frank and Delta Moore Stevison. A resident of this vicinity since 1947, she was a former employee of Anvil Brand and was also affiliated with the Archdale-Trinity Senior Citizens Center, where she won numerous awards. She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy.
She was married on May 6, 1933 to Frank Albert Phillips, who preceded her in death Oct. 13, 1975.
Surviving are one daughter, Betty Whitten and her husband, Jim, of 101 Kaylan Lane, Thomasville; one sister, Faustina Adams of Cleveland, Tenn.; and a grandson, James Whitten Jr.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at Church of God of Prophecy in High Point by the Rev. Phil Smith, the Rev. Robey Ayers and the Rev. George McLaughlin. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight.

Willard Clayton Alford, 74, of 200 Koontz Ave. died at 8:20 a.m. Sept. 17, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
He was born Aug. 8, 1926, in Davidson County, a son of Millard Clemmon Alford and Ollie Ree Sullivan Alford, both preceded him in death. During the mid 1960's, he was the Thomasville Justice of the Peace. He was also a self employed public accountant for 38 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Hillside Park Baptist Church and a helper with the Youth Sunday School Class. He was married Jan. 8, 1953, to Gladys Hughes Alford of the home.
Also surviving are two daughters, Ms. Teresa Alford of the home and Mrs. Donald (Karen) Gladston of Thomasville; one brother, Charlie M. Alford and wife, Mildred, of Lexington; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Bonnie P. Alford of Thomasville; one granddaughter, Donita Gladston of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hillside Park Baptist Church by the Rev. John Wheeles and the Rev. Terry Boles. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at J.C. Mrs. Alberta Blanche Carter, 80, of Beverly Health Care Center, died Sept. 16, 2000, at the nursing center.
She was born July 11, 1920, in Jackson, Ohio, a daughter of Albert and Eliza Carter, who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lorenzo 'Rob' (Ellen) Robinson of 910 Kenreed Drive; two sisters, Charlotte Steppenbacker of West Salem, Ohio, and Bertie Christensen of Elyria, Ohio; a grandson, Charles D. Robinson of Burnswick, Ohio, and a great-grandson, Charles L. Robinson of Brunswick.
Mrs. Carter will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Ohio.

Everett C. Crouse, 86, of 4854 E. Holly Grove Road, died Sept. 17, 2000, at Britthaven of Davidson Nursing Center.
He was born April 11, 1914, in Davidson County, a son of Edward G. Crouse and Pearlie Sechrist Crouse, who preceded him in death. He was a retired employee of Monarch Furniture Co. of High Point. He was a member of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church and the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. On May 20, 1933, he was married to Verda Lohr, who survives of the home. Also surviving are a daughter, Dr. Margaret Bray of Dillsboro; a son, Billy bCrouse and his wife, Glenda, of Thomasville; a sister Mrs. Mattie Imbler of Thomasville; three granddaughters, Laurie Bray Bicknell, Joyce Crouse Cecil and Cindy Crouse Heaton; a grandson, Billy Gene Crouse; a great-greatgrandson, Scott Moore; and several other great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church by Dr. E. Keith Carroll and the Rev. Carroll Upton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Son's Funeral Home until the service hour. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and other times at the home.
