Mrs. Susie 'Susan' Simmons, 67, of 605 Cross St. died Sept. 17, 2000, at her residence.
She was born in Thomasville, a daughter of Willie and Mary Callicut Dulla, who both preceded her in death. She resided in High Point more than 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Simmons.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Virginia Martin of Bridgeport, Conn.; nieces, among them, Ms. Frances Dulla of High Point; and other relatives and friends, including Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Martin, who were her caretakers.
Memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Alphonso Martin.

James Roy Starr, 84, of Raeford Avenue died at 4:40 a.m. Sept. 21, 2000, at SunBridge Nursing Home after a brief illness.

Christina Leanne Johnson, infant daughter of Henry Johnson and Amy Shiree Vernon, of 1589 Fisher Ferry Road died Sept. 21, 2000, at Community General Hospital in Thomasville.
Surviving are her parents of Thomasville; her grandparents, James and Aleda Vernon of High Point; her great-grandmother, Myrtle Lee of High Point; a sister, Halie Shiree Vernon of High Point; and two uncles, James A. Vernon of Franklin and Jerry Braxton of High Point.
Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Sunday in Holly Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Jesse Burford. Visitation will be 6-9 tonight at the residence her grandparents, 609 Baker Road, High Point.

Harry Siersted, 69, of 191 Walker Blvd. died Sept. 18, 2000.
He was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of Alfred and Marie Reirsen Siersted. He was a former resident of Charlotte and Massapequa, N.Y., prior to moving to Thomasville. He attended Nassau County Community College and Hofstra University. He was a retired credit manager of Abraham & Straus Department Stores, First Union Bank of Charlotte North Carolina, D.K. Fulk Agency and Bank of North Carolina. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Lexington and a volunteer for SHIIP of Davidson County. He was a Mason and former master of Roome Lodge F&AM of New York City. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a beloved husband and a loving father.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Janet Brummer Siersted of the residence; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mike Louia, both of Thomasville; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Megan Louia.
Memorial service will be 4 p.m. today at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. Craven Ford. Visitation will be after the service today in the church fellowship hall and other times at the residence.

Mrs. Virginia Cox Wagoner, 68, of 3241 Cliffwood Drive died Sept. 20, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born May 15, 1932, a daughter of Clarence and Mattie Lunsford Cox, who both preceded her in death. On April 3, 1965, she married Howard O. Wagoner, who survives. She was manager of the Bargain Outlet on Court Street in Statesville.
Also surviving are three sons, Gerald Jones of Statesville, Gene (Kim) Jones of Thomasville and Dale Jones of Archdale; a daughter, Penny (Wayne) Ruffner of Statesville; a brother, Gene Cox of Archdale; a sister, Mazie Chandler of Archdale; and her seven grandchildren, Paige Ruffner of Statesville, Trevor Jones of Thomasville, Casey and Brittany Jones of Archdale and Ashley (Brian) Johnson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Matthew and Justin Jones, both of Greenville, S.C.; and three stepsons, James Jones of Greenville, Clifford Jones of West Virginia and Floyd Jones of Archdale.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home Westmoreland Chapel by the Rev. Albert Handy. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mary Hill

Mrs. Mary Rice 'Mama' Hill, 85, of 1100 Johnson St., died Sept. 22, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 30, 1914, in Madison County, N.C., a daughter of Spencer and Harriet Hensley Rice and had been a resident of High Point for 68 years. She was employed with Thomas Hosiery Co. and the Center Theatre. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and dear friend to many. In 1931 she was married to Carl B. 'Pap' Hill, who died Jan. 26, 1991.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mary Anne Gardner and her husband, Roger, of High Point; a son, Michael Hill and his wife, Becky, of West Memphis, Ark.; a sister, Ms. Donna Marie Rice, of High Point; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Hendrix.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday in Sechrest Chapel on E. Lexington Avenue by the Rev. Don Lloyd. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will remain at Sechrest Funeral Home and the family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7-8:30.

Donald 'Don' Richard Johnson, 75, of Hickory, died Sept. 22, 2000.
He was born in Guilford County on Aug. 30, 1925, a son of Delos Samuel and Lillie Jones Johnson. He was a retired salesman for Crain Industries and formerly worked for 30 years for Ray Hamler Co. and was a World War II veteran. He was an avid golfer and a member of Highland United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Johnson and Kenneth Johnson, and two sisters, Faye Langley and Ruth Buffin.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Waters Johnson, of the home; two sons, Greg Johnson and his wife, Lisa, and Richard 'Rick' Johnson and his wife, Kris, all of Hickory; a daughter, Donna Ruth Streetman and her husband, Hubert, of Thomasville; a niece, Lisa Buchanan, of Wise, Va.; a sister, Phyllis Haley, of High Point; two brothers, Glen Johnson and Reitzel Johnson, both of High Point; a granddaughter, Laura Johnson, of Hickory; and two grandsons, Bryan Johnson and Keith Johnson, both of High Point.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Highland United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jim Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-7:30 tonight at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.

Roy Barnhardt

Roy L. Barnhardt Jr., 75, of 3408 Pine Valley Road died Sept. 23, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born in Cabarrus County on May 31, 1925, to Roy L. and Rebecca Eudy Barnhardt. He had been a resident of High Point for 25 years and was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy as Quarter Master for 14 years. He was a scout executive for the Boy Scouts of America and retired in 1980 after 25 years of service. He later worked for the City of High Point in the waste water treatment department and at Oak Hollow Marina from 1982-1987. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was former president of the Christian Life Sunday School Class. He previously taught Sunday School at First Presbyterian Church in New Bern. He was a private airplane pilot. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-mother, Mrs. Eva Cline, and a son, Steven Anthony 'Tony' Barnhardt, in 1992. On Feb. 14, 1947, he was married to Eiddy Honeycutt, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are a son, Terry W. Barnhardt of Columbus, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Basinger of Richfield and Mrs. Alice Eldora Frye of Hickory; and three grandchildren, Andrew, James and Erica.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Harry Cole and the Rev. Lisa M. Mullen. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. Visitation is 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service on East Lexington Avenue.

Miss Zona Mae Everhart, 92, of Thomasville died Sept. 24, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
She was born in Davidson County Jan. 28, 1908, a daughter of Henry Lee Everhart and Minnie Jane Murphy Everhart and was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class and a member and former secretary of the United Methodist Women. She had retired from Wrenn Hosiery Mill and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Sunshine Senior Citizens. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Harvey (Ruby) Hilton, and a nephew, Donald Griffin.
Surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Howard (Mary) Hilton of Thomasville, Mrs. Gertie Griffin of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Woodrow (Dorothy) Simerson of the home, Mrs. Artis (Alline) Payne of High Point and Mrs. Betty Walker of Winston-Salem; and 11 nieces and their families.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jacqueline Elliott. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until the hour of service. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the home of a sister, Mrs. Betty Walker, 3976 Midway School Road, Winston-Salem.

Raleigh Curtis Southern Jr., 65, of 1106 Asheboro Street died at 7:51 a.m. on Sept. 24, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after a short illness.
He was born April 23, 1935, in Guilford County, a son of Raleigh Curtis and Ruby Stacy Southern, Sr. He had been a resident of High Point all of his life and was retired from Carolina Upholstery Co.
Surviving are an uncle, Mr. James Stacy of Cornelius.
Graveside service and burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
