Mrs. Renda Lohr Hicks Johnson, 60, of 201 Oaklawn St. died Oct. 9, 2000, at her residence.
She was born March 1, 1940, a daughter of John and Georgia Joiner Hicks. She was a member of Welch Memorial United Methodist Church. She was formerly employed with Eldercare as a nurse.
Surviving are four sons, Harold Hawkins Jr. and his wife, Robin, Steven Ray Hawkins, Barry Joe Hawkins and Charles Lee Hawkins, all of High Point; a daughter, Christine Bauer of Joplin, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Tonya Marie Hawkins and Derek Wayne Hawkins, both of High Point and Kristen Lohr Bauer of Joplin.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the residence of Harold Hawkins, 117 Kendall Drive.

Mrs. Agnes B. Matthews, 92, formerly of Camden Avenue died at 4:15 a.m. Oct. 9, 2000, at High Point Care Center where she resided for a month. She previously resided at Triad Manor for eight years.
She was born Sept. 6, 1908, in Randolph County, a daughter of David and Carrie Freeman Butler who both preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of North Carolina. She was formerly employed with Melrose Hosiery Mill as a housekeeper and later employed at Piedmont Christian Home as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was a founding member of Baldwin's Chapel Seventh Day Adventist Church where she was active with the Dorcas Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Matthew; two brothers, Jack Butler and Paul Butler; and three sisters, Mary Butler, Nellie King and Ollie May.
Surviving are four brothers, Ray Butler and his wife, Alean, of Asheboro, Jurle Butler and his wife, Emma, of Landover, Md., Charlie Butler of Washington, D.C., and David Earl Butler and his wife, Maggie, of High Point; two sisters, Willie McGruder of Detroit, Mich., and Bertha McNair of High Point; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel by the Rev. D.M. Jones. Burial will be in Mt. Shepherd Methodist Church Cemetery, Randolph County. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Haizlip Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Butler, 1855 Jericho Butler Drive, Asheboro.

Feltie Wyatt, 90, of GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center, formerly of Wesley Drive in High Point, died Oct. 8, 2000, at the center.
He was born May 16, 1910, in Wilkes County, a son of Leander and Mary Wyatt. He was a resident of High Point, the majority of his life. He retired from the city of High Point and was employed previously with Highland Yarn Mills. He also was a school crossing guard. He was a member of Trinity Heights Wesleyan Church. In 1972, he married the former Mabel Thomas who preceded him in death in 1998. He also was preceded in death by a stepson, Edgar Sheppard; and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Carter.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ollie Pruitt of High Point; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Audrey C. Thomas of Walterboro, S.C., Mrs. Carolyn Southern and her husband, Clayton, of Thomasville and Mrs. Diana L. Johnson of High Point; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Bentley and her husband, Bathus, of Pound, Va.; a grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and 11 stepgrandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. James M. Capps. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Virgil Carrick Sr.

Virgil Paul Carrick Sr., 84, died Oct. 8, 2000.
He was a son of Fletcher Reid and Ila Beatrice Gallimore Carrick of High Point. He was married to Ruby Marsh for 55 years. He was a devoted husband and father. He was a High Point resident since his early youth.
He was a member of High Point City Council from 1963 to 1965. He was a Republican candidate for mayor of High Point in 1965. He served on the High Point Civil Service Commission. He was a devoted member of Christ Community Church, serving as elder, member of the board and was superintendent for many years of the church's Sunday school program. He also served on the High Point school system's curriculum study commission. He owned Carrick Products Inc., a well-know furniture hardware manufacturing company in High Point, until his retirement.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Paul and his wife, Judy, and their children Paige and Jordan, all of Charlotte, and Roger of Los Angeles; two daughters, Jan and her husband, Mike Mendenhall, and their children, Jon and Rob of Trinity and Judith and her husband, Mel Rigsbee, and their children, Clif and Alec of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, F.R. Carrick and his wife, Opal, of High Point; and a sister, Mrs. Henry (Una) Campbell of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Jeffrey P. Palmer. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nannie Jane Wagner Kanoy, 96, of 104 Beck Road died Oct. 9, 2000, at her residence.
She was born April 28, 1904, in Davidson County, a daughter of William Jacob Wagner and Mittie Eddinger Wagner. She retired from Fremont Hosiery Mill, serving for 35 years. She was the oldest surviving member of Rich Fork Baptist Church, a member of the Ladies Bible Class and a former member of the Women's Missionary Society. On Dec. 26, 1923, she married John Mitchell Kanoy, who preceded her in death June 10, 1980. She also was preceded in death by an infant son, John Wesley Kanoy, in 1924, five sisters and six brothers.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Emma Lou Stout and her husband, Charles, of the residence and Mrs. Nona Ruth Clodfelter and her husband, Sam, of Thomasville; three sons, Richard Brown Kanoy and his wife, Faye, Raymond M. 'Doc' Kanoy and his wife, Odessa, and Roy Lee Kanoy and his wife, Margaret, all of Thomasville; five grandchildren, Rick Kanoy and his wife, Carolyn, Kathy Grosman and her husband, Larry, Steve Kanoy and his wife, Gloria, Henry Clodfelter and Diane Lowe; two stepgrandchildren, Jeff Wyatt and his wife, Mona, and Rodney Kinney and his wife, Tammy; six great-grandchildren, Wesley Kanoy, Josh Kanoy, Jenna Kanoy, Matthew Kanoy, Nicholas Grosman and Wendy White; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Brittany Kinney and Jordan Kinney; and four great-great-grandchildren, Chelsea Nichole Rathe, Brian Rathe Jr., Amy Lee and Glen Allen White.

Mrs. Vernell Medlin Phillips, 79, of 106-A Price St. went home to be with Jesus Oct. 10, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born July 2, 1921, a daughter of Philip and Cynthia Duckworth Medlin. She was a lifelong resident of High Point and retired from Slane Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She enjoyed life and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her kindness and unconditional love can never be replaced. She was preceded in death by her son, Darryl Phillips in 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Peggy P. Cox and her husband, George, of Trinity and Mrs. Faye Bowlin of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Frances Cecil of High Point; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hughes Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Floyd Edwards. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Mrs. Genevieve Rorie, 54, of 1664 Park Ave. died Oct. 4, 2000, at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.
She was born Oct. 28, 1945, a daughter of Arthur S. and Lula R. Hicks. She was employed with Covenant House as a Food Service Manager. She was a graduate of William Penn High School. She was preceded in death by Sgt. Anderson Lenwood Ruderson.
Surviving are her husband, Benjamin Fludd of N.Y.; a son, Benjamin L. Rorie; two daughters, Arnell Rorier and Penny (Harold) Evans; a brother, Clarence M. Ruderson; three grandchildren, Rhyon Phifer, Jamar Carney and Ebony Evans; two aunts, Valerie Holmes of New York and Barbara Ann Corry of South Carolina; and a host of cousins and friends.

Mrs. Faye Nance Everhart, 67, of 324 Kanoy Road died Oct. 11, 2000, at her residence.
She was born March 9, 1933, in Davidson County, a daughter of Fred and Bessie Kinley Nance. She retired from Peoples Savings and Loan Co. and was a member of the Fairview Stitchers Club. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. On Feb. 22, 1953, she married Wilburn K. Everhart who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kimberlie E. Spencer and her husband, Don, of Archdale and Lynn E. Kelley and her husband, Don, of Little River, S.C.; a son, Samuel F. Everhart and his wife, Michelle of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Virgie Cobb and her husband, Clayton, of New London; and four grandchildren, Don Spencer Jr., Joseph Kelley, Jacob Kelley and Caroline Everhart.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Acme-McCrary Corp. after 25 years of service. She was a member of Pleasant Union United Church of Christ and a former Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Fields; a son Gary Fields of Denton; two daughters, Sheila Allmon of Asheboro and Judy Allred of Beaufort; a sister, Mary R. Stone of Winston-Salem; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Dorothy Irene Kennedy, 75, of 7 Gore Court died Oct. 10, 2000, at Britthaven of Davidson Nursing Center.
She was born May 8, 1925, a daughter of Rufus Alexander Griffin and Ila Victoria Kennedy Griffin, who both preceded her in death. She retired from Adam Millis of Kernersville, after 23 years of service. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She married William Lee Kennedy, who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a son, Vickey Earl Stanley in 1966; two sisters, Virginia Mae Brown and Annabelle Morris; and five brothers, Victor Griffin, Charles 'Bud' Griffin, Vestal Griffin, Roy Griffin and Buck Griffin.
Surviving are a son, Vernon Bruce Stanley and his wife, Marsha, of the residence; a stepson, Richard Kennedy of Thomasville; two sisters, Ann Milliken of Kernersville and Doris Carter of High Point; a brother, Charles (Makie) Griffin of Arkansas; two grandchildren, Rodney Earl Stanley and Heather Lynn Stanley; and a stepgranddaughter, Monica Kennedy.
